PANACHE A GREAT FIG TO HAVE

Hi this is Kausik from Adelaide. After a long time I am posting again, I guess life is getting busy with kids growing up fast.
Anyway I have the panache for a while and this year finally it came out of its glory. It growing beautifully and produce some great tasting figs. To me Panache is one of the great fig tree to have because not only the tree, branches and the fig looks spectacular but also it taste amazing.
Anyone one who still did not have this amazing fig must get one. It is really a must have one.

Richie, I will have cuttings thus fall.

Beautiful photos!! I'm glad I was able to root a cutting from Harvey.

Earlier this month - I got cuttings of Panache along with 3 other varieties from USDA-Davis.  The Panache cuttings seemed eager to bud out compare to other varieties.   I am using wet moss (burrito method) to initiate the rooting.  After 2 weeks - I opened the wrap to check on rooting.  Panache seems it got the urge and desire to root out and has the most roots.

I am preparing to pot up this weekend or next.  Can't say if the cuttings will be big enough over the summer to give me any fruit.

Nice Panache photos.

I did not get my Panaches to produce fruits - as yet. I wonder if it is too hot and dry in my location during summer despite fertigation.

How the Panache variety is defined? San Pedro - probably - and not as Smyrna type or a common fig?

Common fig said to need long, hot and dry summer. Sounds like you're good to go!

Ariel it might take a long to get it established but when it does you will see how quickly it grows. Mine this year grown close to 4 feet each branch.

It's so cool looking I had to have one. I can at least ripen the brebas. Maybe not the main crop. It has a couple breba, and a sucker that looks ripe for an air layer! I never did them before, I may try it to practice!

Check eBay for Panache cuttings - cuttings are surprisingly cheap this season.

Are there any Panache cuttings or plants currently being offered on eBay in the US that aren't being offered by scammers like dausername1 ? The answer is no.... There are almost as many scammer offerings of all varieties on eBay today as there are legit offerings....

Note - Edited only to correct an unjust citation I made related to another forum member...

I hope mine fruits this year..keeping my fingers crossed

pofigist.... I checked and in US only dausername1 .... who is a known scammer had listings for panache so please stop trying to direct unaware folks to scammers... If you think there are legit sellers then please do provide the links that you think are legit....

I have a panache i ground that i'm lookimg forward to producing. I'm going to move my greenhouse over the panache and unwrap it so It can get moving.

How did my name got mixed into this ? Why would you just call someone a scammer without even finding out who that person is first ? If you ever got something from me on Ebay in the past and were not happy, why not contact me directly instead of slandering my name here on the forum ? I always go extra mile to make sure all my Ebay customers are very happy with their purchases and I do answer all the questions when I am given  a chance to. If you are not happy with me selling Panache Reverse cuttings, why not contacting me directly and simply ask questions ? Some of you here on the forum have been in my garden personally and trimmed some cuttings off my trees, some of you have been my great customers for a few years and I tried to take great care of all of you the best I could with honesty and politeness.... If you ever had any issues with anything I have on Ebay, why not ask me personally ?? I would of answered you and provided any info you wanted... Why slander my name just like that ??  We are all adults here and need to remember to treat each other with respect and decency.

@katerina941   "need to remember to treat each other with respect and decency"

I agree with your statement as quoted above and although I try to avoid painting anyone with the broad brush label of ebay scammer, it is extremely difficult, considering the number of ebay scammers plaquing the fig and plant world with their existence, to separate the wheat from the chaff...

I refer you to the the following:

The recent F4F member abcd has made some interesting posts, appearing to be a newbie fig collector, offering to buy cuttings from others.  In the original post, abcd indicates they have had trouble rooting cuttings and would like to buy more cuttings to keep experimenting.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7219709 Also, quite interestingly, claiming to have imported Greek fig cuttings released which were released by USDA contrary to very clear regulations that prohibit this.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7228699

I and others have sold significant quantities of cuttings to abcd, or Alex Gulenok, of River Edge, NJ.  Specifically, I sold Alex 25 cuttings of Panache and 25 cuttings of UCR 184-15 and he received them last Wednesday (January 7th).  I and others are 99% certain that Alex sells under the eBay ID of 2014.gulen (partial name match, same city).

Alex also just recently posted on F4F asking for a source of starter Jolly Tiger plants.  See http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=7234410

The eBay 2014.gulen account was created in October 2014 and has a history of selling 9 varieties of figs in the past month and currently has 21 auctions listed with 9 varieties in addition to those showing up in feedback history of being sold previously. An auction for 184-15 was also active yesterday but apparently someone already purchased those cuttings.  Current listings include Jolly Tiger which is particularly interesting as Alex was just looking for starter plants four days ago and now has cuttings being offered.  See http://www.ebay.com/itm/251789211493 for the current Jolly Tiger listing.  I strongly suspect the striped fig cuttings shown are the Panache cuttings I shipped to Alex last week.

I suspect Alex also uses the eBay account svet_vasyl-2008 which also has a listing for Jolly Tiger with many of the same photos being used.  There was another auction in the Buy It Now format that apparently got sold already.  See http://www.ebay.com/itm/321640705172 for the current listing for suckers.

I and others have suspicions of connections with other eBay accounts but evidence in incomplete.  Maybe Alex (abcd) would like to provide the details.

If you've been the buyer of cuttings from suspicious sellers in the northeast, please send me a PM with details.

I have saved PDF copies of the threads linked above in case they are deleted by abcd.

EDIT- See posts where I have made significant updates at:
http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1285794538&postcount=99
http://www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1285806763&postcount=109

I suggest avoiding any activity with the following eBay users:

2014.gulen
atskor10 (formerly atskor8) *
korina-2009 *
korina77-2008 *
svet_vasyl-2008 *

It's been confirmed that these eBay users use the same PayPal account.  See post #109 linked above.

Edit 1/17: It appears that eBay user 77peony of Moscow, PA is probably also part of this group.

Also, if anyone has a desire to read a cached copy of abcd's thread before some posts were deleted, it can temporarily be found at http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:b6ep9rzRrXsJ:www.figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post%3Fid%3D7229696%26goto%3Dnextnewest+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Edit 1/18: It appears with 99% certainty that radyslava is another eBay account being used by abcd (Alex Gulenok).

Edit 4/28:  In an effort to edude detection, these scammers continue to change their IDs.  Also, another related account was identified.  As of now, the list of eBay accounts used by this group consist of the following:
200rarefigtrees
77peony
korina-2009
korina77-2008
vasyl_svet
vasyus4
growgr.55
radyslava

That said... your name "katerina941" as registered on eBay does not appear on the list of known scammers as contained above so at the very least I have cited you as being part of that miserable crew when perhaps my brush stroke was too wide. I haven't dealt with you personally although I have been victimized by some other of the dregs on that list... As such, I withdraw my comments related to you being part of the scamming crew and apologize to you for including you in the list without direct and first hand knowledge of sales methodology.

I strongly recommend to the folks participating in the forums or just visiting to do their own research and decide for themselves who they want to do business with... Buyers beware... know who you are buying from and what you should expect to receive for your money before committing same to enrich some low life creep element preying on the public...

See this thread for reference to Katerina941, where she explains she has nothing to do with a scammer with the same first name.  No one indicated they had any problem with her.

@Katerina941

I confuse your name with one very similar in the list of scammers, korina77, also there was one kate in that list. So I'm very sorry to mix your name in that list of shame. Next time I will doble check the list, even if I think I'm sure. I deleted my comments.

I have purchased from her and can say the cuttings and service was first rate. I sadly believe this is the second time she has been attacked on this Forum and not too long ago another member I have bought from was also alleged to be a scammer because she used generic pics and did not know a lot about figs. Again sad.

We all know about the scammers and I too have been had on Ebay. But my overall experience is there are far more honest sellers than scammers. I have used the forum to help determine if someone or something was legit and encourage it, but common sense and a little research goes a long way.

Thank you JMRTSUS for kind words , I really appreciate that😊, and Apology accepted mfehmi. Confusions and misunderstandings happen and we can all learn something good from it.

I do not feel like accusing  sellers of being "legit or no legit" without hard evidence, it is why my post was about cuttings ant trees of Panache- which is a lot now on eBay from USA sellers. And it is for buyers to decide " Buy or not to buy?'.
If you know everything about everything and everybody- try to find out how to search eBay to find a product.
Remember - this forum about figs, and not about rumors.....

Definition of rumor
  1. 1 :  talk or opinion widely disseminated with no discernible source

  2. 2 :  a statement or report current without known authority for its truth

Definitely top on my list also a little tough to get to ripen in the North but I wouldn't be without one

Great looking pics and great looking figs, Dave.... Congratulations...

Wow  Harvey - knock em dead. Nice job - thx 4 info.!

I'm sure I still have a couple of 1 gallon Panache's.
I haven't really started selling 1 gallon plants ($25) yet as I'm still selling cuttings ($10) but if you need one PM me.
I did not take any Panache cuttings this year (with 275 varieties I have to skip every other plant or so.) and if any one wants I can check my tree but I'm just a day or so away from shutting down cutting sales.
My original tree came from Gene Hosey.
Buyer beware though that this variety needs lots of sun and heat! It also seems to do better with less rain and lighter waterings.
Here in Virginia zone 7A it is borderline unless it gets a premium site in full sun in the orchard.
