Panache Fig Blew Open

This is my second year with this variety I didn't realize that they split open with the rain everything was going good they were growing and getting very large and yesterday we had a major down pour and when I went to see there progression today this is what I found

I ate them anyway and they were absolutely tasteless  I had quite a few that did ripen correctly and it was like eating a spoon full of jelly absolutely delicious I suppose next year I will cover the pot so this doesn't happen again

Certain varieties cannot handle late season rain, lost some of mine this way

Thanks for sharing.

Best,

ditto, mine did the same.

Same here although mine were still pretty good.

We had an about an inch of rain a couple of weeks ago (a bit unusual for timing, glad I had just finished re-roofing my house) and didn't notice them splitting, but maybe that's not enough to cause a problem.  I'm still picking about one a day from mine.

One day of heavy rain and the result.....

Also did same here and left yard last season.

I don't know how mine did not split this year, last year they poped before fully ripe, only about halfway there, this year only one had a slight crack on the skin.  The plant is getting root bound so maybe there isn't much root pressure with it being on the drier side or maybe because I oiled them or there wasn't significant enough rainfall/moisture to cause it.  I have to keep it now, my girlfriend loves it so instead of me chopping it up this year like planned I will have to root prune and transplant into a 30 gallon container.

i hope you get better panache crop next season Dave :-)
