Panache fruit withers just before ripe

I have a 4 year old Panache in a pot that is having its second year of prolific fruiting. This year the fruits look good until they swell and lighten in color like normal, and just before they are ready to pick they wither and turn brown like they got sunburned, except it is on all sides.

The foliage looks happy and the less mature fruit are not sunburned. It appears to be getting enough water. I am in inland Orange County, CA where figs grow like weeds. None of my other trees (Conadria, Celeste, VdB, Mission) are exhibiting this behavior.

Any insight before I lose the whole crop? I expect to lose a few fruits to not maturing/withering but not every fruit! Thanks for any help.

Edit: I harvested the two withered figs from the picture. They had no off flavors, and were more like dried figs than fresh. Turns out my drip irrigation controller for this zone was still in winter mode, watering half as often as it should. So nothing more than user error.

I eat figs that look like that. But all that counts is whether or not it's spoiled inside. Cut one open and look. If not moldy or spoiled looking go ahead and taste it. If it tastes good you've got your answer. My guess is it's just sunburned and will taste great.
