Panache or LSU Tiger? or something else?

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone.   I'm new here and wanted some advice on this Fig i picked up today.   The label says "Tiger", but I'm interested in finding out if it is Panache or LSU tiger.   Is it too early to tell?  Any help is welcome.

Thanks, Dan

Usually when labeled "Tiger" the reference is to Panache. Your leaves seem to support that, too. Time will tell.

Hello Dan and welcome to the forum.

Below are a couple of pictures of a panache wood. As you can see they have stripes on the wood too.
That's not to say yours isn't. Give it a few more weeks to give the new growth time to begin hardening a bit. Usually, the fresh new growth will not show the stripes also. "Usually".

Older wood will not show these stripes either. I think it is the 1st and 2nd year wood that will show these stripes and then they go away.

Good luck.

Hi Dan,
Let a fellow North Floridian be the first to greet you. Welcome to the forum!

If the label says Tiger, it is most likely an LSU Tiger, and not a Panache judging by the look of the trunk. Panache usually has a mottled or two-tone appearance. Nice looking plant, BTW.

You might want to add your location and zone by way of the Control Panel. Let us know a little about yourself and what other fig trees you may have.

Edit...Rafed, you beat me by a whisker...

Welcome Dan !!

Welcome Dan,

My fig which came from legitimate nursery, had a tag which read Striped Tiger (Panache) Fig.
It was a slow grower for me last summer. I'm still waiting for fruit. I decided to get one after tasting some nice California Figs Labeled as Panache at my local store.  I hope that you have the right one  you want.

Thanks for all the replies!   I looked closer and see some striping on the stem.   Pretty sure that confirms its a Panache. 20140413_181004.jpg

Welcome. Whichever one it is - LSU Tiger or Panache - congratulations! Both are good figs.

Striped wood is Panachee. Unstriped wood is something else.
