Panache vs black Madeira

Just curious, the best fig I've had is a panache, haven't tried a B Madeira yet, any of you have had both perfectly ripened let me know your thoughts!

I've tasted the caprified Panache from the store and had to get one. I just couldn't have enough of these figs and bought the whole case. That was three years ago, so I purchased a specimen and still no sign of fruit as of today. At that time, I had a couple of figs on my Black Madeira from UCD and have not had any for the last couple of years as growth in ground is at a stand still. I might move before I form an opinion on this one. Whether it is a black Madeira or a Panache, you need a long warm season for these to ripen properly.
Based on what I just told you and the fact that we don't have a wasp in TX, a Col de Dame Blanc from UCD is closer in taste to a Panache than a Black Madeira. If you are in NJ, I would get a Col de Dame Gris, which might be the best choice of all three in your area since they all taste relatively close to each other.
In your climate a Black fig will do much better than a BM.I grow the Violette de Sollies and have a tiny Noire de Barbentaine (it's Cousin) and can safely say that I had a tough time deciding when comparing the BM with VDS.
This year I'm hoping to have some ripe Pretos. They say that the are the next best thing after a Bkack Madeira, but again they need a lot of heat and a long season.

I've heard speculation that Black Maderia & Figo Preto is the same fig.  I say that's not true, I grow them both and the fruit is different, although very similar.  Black Madeira is better tasting.

I grow several each of Panache and Black Madeira and both are among my favorites.

I also grow several Figo Preto and, IMO, the are identical to Black Madeira.  On the island of Madeira they call by the informal name of Figo Preto and nobody I've talked to there or from there knows of a similar fig that could be what we know as Black Madeira.  Keith (KK) also grows a black fig from Madeira that appears to be the same (mine just went into the ground last week).

Sas, I suggest you graft Black Madeira onto something more vigorous since yours is growing slowly for you.  It's made a huge difference on my one example.
