panachee

I have two panachee's that were doing oh so well up until the hurricane sandy hit us last october. I had them both inside my house with the intent on them wintering inside to get more growth. Well without power for 12 days they all my trees lost all their leaves and haven't done anything since then. All the other trees have rebounded beautifully except panachee  even with them both being in the greenhouse. Ifigured ok maybe the larger one was root boundso I repotted it and the  roots were fine,no root binding at all. I use MG fertilizer every week and still nothing's happening with the panachee. Anyone have any advice?

Keep it warm and well fed.  My Sister's KB just poked out a bud yesterday and she's in Oakland, CA where there was no storm.

scott, as long as it's not dead, keep it. don't water as much as others. give some dolomite lime.. maybe it need some other things than what's in MG.

Scott...last winter I made the mistake of trying to keep my Ischia White growing in the house all winter...plenty of sun etc...but it eventually lost all its leaves some time in Feb....it seemed to throw the whole annual cycle off kilter, and when spring arrived the tree would not break bud until almost two months after all the other trees...then at the beginning of June it finally started to show signs of life and now at the beginning of July it is looking strong and healthy...I think my mistake was not allowing it to go dormant along with all the other fig trees...lesson learned; "don't fool with mother nature".

Pete Ihave no intentions of giving up on them...Ive read too many "miracle fig" stories lol.As long as they have green in the bark Ill keep hoping.
Vince I think youre right about them going dormant because I do have green in the bark when i slice into it....I think its just a waiting game now.
Bob I really hope they do start doing something soon .....patience...patience....patience. ughhhhh.

Scott ( & Vince too!)

I have a Panache here in Queens so I am feelin' your pain.  As you both probably kniow, Figs need what is called chill hours in order to bear fruit.  There is a chart available on the internet, but I believe they need about 200 chill hours minimum per winter-easily achieved in the northeast, but not so easy in the Southwest or Deep South.  I made the mistake of keeping an italian fig tree indoors over 6 years like a fool waiting for fruit that never came-yes Vince, that is the one I will be sending you the cuttings this autumn.  Now, the tree fruits since I no longer bring it indoors into a heated environment.  An unheated garage or basement or shed is always the best option for a container fig in the Northeast.

Meanwhile, my panache is finally bearing little figlets the size of my pinkie nail, but I do not yet see the characteristic stripes on them.  Let's hope something good happens, otherwise I will donate the tree to Scott as a replacement.  i would love to know how that fig guy Adriano in Ontario grows Panache figs so far north.

Rafael, I wish you luck with your panachee, I'm looking forward to finally seeing one of the little hot air balloon shaped figs. with any luck mine will wake up soon and start producing. Hopefully if it does start then the greenhouse will provide heat long enough for it to ripen. The greenhouse is responsible for  ton of growth on all my other figs. I wish I had room for a bigger one, 6x8  fills up awfully fast.

My panachee's both put out a leaf on each tree yesterday,,,,,PATIENCE does work.
