My bull-headed insistence on growing a Panachee here in New York finally bore fruit today as I harvested the first of several ripening fruits.  Pretty good, sweet flavor, small sized fruit, with a large, open eye. I hope to have about ten ripen before the season ends.  You will notice no stripes-the message from Bayflora was that it is common not to see stripes until the tree matures a bit more, though I will have my doubts until I see stripes!

Wonderful!!! I had one and it died and wasn't going to get another. Now I think I will especially since you state it was good tasting.

I don't think you have panachee, unfortunately.  Bay Flora is full of crap giving out that kind of information.  The first figs my panachee ever produced were striped as is every fig it has produced, though some of them have had the stripes fade as they ripened.  Additionally, the young (current year's growth) branches of your tree should have yellow stripes.

Yes to confirm Harvey's comments my rooted Panachee cutting from last winter had the striped growth and produced a single fig that was also striped (but eventually dropped).

You are probably right, I checked their website and based on the tree characteristics I believe they sent me a White Genoa, that may be the fruit I pictured in this post, but I am going to get to the bottom of their BS

Good call, Bayflora have admitted their mistake and are shipping a replacement tree out asap. I wanted a White Genoa anyway.

It may be a Panache that has "reverted" (I have called it "reverse") to the all green form it had before it "mutated" into the striped form.

Any Panahce I have ever seen had striped from from the very first fruit, and the new growth wood is striped. I have never seen an exception.



The Reverse form is just as tasty as the Panache from, just doesn't have stripes.

Glad they are working to fix the mistake.  Fruit shape looks right for White Genoa.

Thank you for taking the time to address this problem, the grower admitted their mistake and are shipping out my new Panachee.

The grocery store was all stocked up on Panachee (Tiger) Figs...  Very tasty, and I imagine they would be 10 x better if picked fresh. 

What is the best climate for Panache? I planted one in the ground at the beginning of the season. I found a 3 year old tree, but it always stayed in a green house. I currently have ONE fig on the entire tree.
Its about 5 feet tall and has not leafed out much at all. I'm along the coast in New Haven Connecticut.

Should I leave it in the ground and protect it from the harsh New England winters for another season, or would I have more luck potting it and keeping it indoors? Also, am I being impatient or preemptive. haha hard to tell the difference.

My plan and suggestion is as follows: Panachee does best in the desert southwest and needs a long growing season. I would put it in a large pot, and put it in a greenhouse around first week of March, with a heater if necessary, in order to encourage the plant to break dormancy a month earlier than normal northeast figs. Pay close attention to water and nutrients in your container culture. Bring it into full maximum sunlight as soon as the weather permits. Try this experiment, you will get lots of figs but I cannot guarantee they will ripen, it's a crapshoot. Several members are trying Panachee in the northeast, with very mixed results.

They should ripen in your zone in pot on cement or rocky surface.
They did here near Chicago no greenhouse just the annual fig shuffle for several years until i gave it away.

Great advice. I was leaning toward putting it in a pot. Just needed some encouragement.

I am glad to see that it is possible to get a ripe Panache off a Long Island tree.  I am definitely going to give it a try from a cutting.

Hi Art thank you for the generous offer, I am not sure I can make it though I would like to go. As you might have noticed in this thread, Bayflora Nursery claim my Panache is in transit so I may not need one, if it does not arrive this week I will let you know.

Ive been trying to post some pictures of the fig bush I got from Rain tree that was suppose to be Panachee but everytime I do the "attach files" link it doesnt do anything.  Cant figure out what Im doing wrong.
