Panachee finally ripens in NY City!

Been long time since i used that program but the file used has to be the "IMG" file same with photobucket as there are several files to copy and past into the message box but the "IMG" is the one to use.
File must be under 1 megabyte for forum to accept.

Other wise with window based system go to micrsoft page and look for "Power tools image resizer" its a small program that self installs.
Once installed you simply right click with mouse your picture and a small dialog box appears to resize small medium or large and this takes only seconds to resize keeping your original in same folder.
It works excellent for windows based system .

ok let me try again see if this works - [9694023237_1818571f7e_n][9694022009_c95027090c_n][9694020399_a228439fbd_n]

It looks sunny there, I hope it is getting at least 6 hours sun or more, otherwise that explains the lack of fruiting. The more sun the better.

Try pinch pruning after the sixth leaf on each stem next year assuming you are getting enough sunlight.

yes its in a field thats where all my fig bushes are no shade all day and in full sun so 8+ hours a day all other fig bushes produce lots of figs,  I will try the pinching next spring  - any idea what var. it may be?

I am far too humble to venture even a guess the leaves seem atypical, Harvey is the man for identifying Panache, he would know better

I am bumping this because after nearly 4 years waiting, I am finally harvesting my own Panachee here in New York City. Here are pics from today's fruit, it has been a real learning experience, and it never ends. These fruits cannot sit on the tree and become droopy. They have a tendency to sour unless you catch them at just the right time. I lost a lot of leaves to sunburn and spider mites this season as well. Its all good-next season we'll do it better.

Well done Rafael. How did it taste?

Chris it was berry like and good, as good as any store-bought Panachee I have tasted (been eating them for about 4 years now).

Rafael, Is this a fig from the replacement tree Bay Flora sent you ? They are a good nursery to do business with.

Very nice to still see the stripes in full ripeness.
Congrats

Chris, yes indeed, Bayflora sent me two replacement trees, the first one died. They are stand-up people, their trees are healthy, very little sign of fmv if any. They also let me keep the White Genoa they initially sent me, its a strong grower that makes very nice white figs. I would recommend them. As we all know, label mix-ups occur all the time even among small-time growers. Imagine if it was a large nursery, its bound to happen.

Hello my friend,
Glad to see the Panache is finally happening for you. I got a cutting from UCD this year and it is doing nicely with a striped fig on it.
Lets see if I can ripen one here in the great state of NJ

Hey Coop I sent u an email

Hi rafaelissimo,
Where is the tree: in ground or in a pot ?
Is yours a strong grower as well ?

Very cool Rafael ,thanks for the follow up.

Hi JDS

The tree is currently in a five gallon pot, will move it up to 10 or 15 next spring. The growth habit is a long main stem with about 4 branches at the top of the canopy. I would say it is of moderate growth habit. 2 "incidents" caused heavy leaf loss this year, so the plant is currently not as lush as it will be in future. 1. Transition from greenhouse into sun was done too quickly, causing a few leaves to get "crisped." 2. Spider mites caused heavy leaf loss while I was on vacation in Italy. Next year I will pinch the highest branch to encourage branching, since the plant is getting too tall for my greenhouse..

I'm hoping this is the year I finally get to taste one myself. They haven't ripened here for the last 2 years now. Hopefully the 3rd year's a charm! They sure are nice looking figs though I must say!

Tyler that looks like an inground tree, is it? Much harder to ripen here in the Northeast.

Hi Rafael... its actually in a 4 gallon pot sunk into the ground with holes in the sides. I may pull it out once it gets cooler and put it in the greenhouse if it needs it.
Tyler

Ok Tyler. With greenhouse you should be able to ripen every year. I started the tree on March 1st and by late April main crop was beginning to form.

Congrats on some beautiful figs Rafael!  The hard work was worth it?

Also very nice looking tree Tyler look forward to see your ripe Panachee figs.

Finally, I also have a Panachee now.  a 4' air layer thanks to Luzzu.
I am hoping next year I may get to taste for myself.

Pino that looks very healthy, congrats. Yes, I do think it was worth it but as the years go by it will be more so.

My first Panachée of this year.
Very sweet and tasty, surely caprified, with bloody red pulp and crunchy seeds.
Unfortunately i didn't take pics of the interior.
Last year were very acidic, like unripe blackberries. This year have a berry note, balanced by the sweetness.
