following up on the other thread to your reply i know what you meen.
Yes that can and probably will occur to some extend about plants like you mentioned yes it stinks.
I destroyed mine and gave it its proer due when i posted picture of it in my 55g burning can out in yard.
Some folks like Jon who has wonderful site called encanto farms sells scion in February which may or may not help you depending when you will be away.
They can be wrapped and put in refrigerator and propagated in spring time just an idea.
