Paradiso (Morle) Reprieve?

This was not an attractive fig in its first year, horrible neck shape and way too much pith. I was going to dump it. I am having second thoughts. The tree is a reliable producer, the figs now look normal and have a sweet honey taste. I did not apply any liquid fertilizer to this tree at all since I thought I would dump it, although I did give it some spring fertilizer. The tree is quite healthy, and provided my first successful airlayer, so I am now rethinking my position. The fruit is not prone to splitting, though it will sour quickly if not picked when ripe. The only apparent snag is that rather large ostiole, which can attract ants and in some places (not in my location) make a nice home for a wasp.

i think someone said that having a perfect weather, almost any figs will taste great. and of course, kind of care the tree receives. it's possible joe's Paradiso can be a great fig in some places. i know some members will not keep gene's Paradiso due to large eye. but it's does great here. it's has long season, and taste great. i'm sure joe's selling that tree since it does well for him. heard nothing but great things about joe.

Rafael, that's a beautiful fig. It would have been a shame had you tossed it away, but good that you keep it.

I actually would not literally have tossed it, I would try to find a suitable home, kind of like giving away kittens from a litter.

I promised this tree to a member but I am going to take a few cuttings and maybe grow another. While the stalwarts Negronne, Smith and Marseilles Black each have exactly 3 figs left on each tree, the Paradiso is loaded and continues to ripen figs at a steady pace. I would have to describe this as an everbearing style fig. The specimen shown here is a whopper, weighing in at an impressive 95 grams.

With a name like Paradiso I bet it tastes great?

Pino, there are numerous Paradiso variants, the Bronze and Gene Hosey appear to be the best tasting. This one tastes good-very honey like, but simple, straight flavor. Sours quickly. Some bug issues too-ants. Huge ostiole.
