Paradiso versus Brunswick

I was able to sample Paradiso and Brunswick side by side today.  I would say the Paradiso won also I had some Brunswick earlier that were better than the ones I picked today.  The Paradiso eye was smaller and it was sweeter and had a darker flavor than the Brunswick.  Sort of like a dark carmel flavor maybe, if I try to describe it.  The outside is obviously darker and there was fig honey dripping out of the eye when I picked it.  The leaves look very similar.

Thanks for the pictures and interesting information. I was always curious how interelated the two were.

Those were some huge..... FIGS. Wow they look great. I'm happy.. I have Paradiso. Nom Nom nom!

I have both types also. I only got to try one Brunswick so far and I didn't like it at all. Maybe when the other two figs on it ripen they'll be better, (I hope). In contrast, my Paradiso was good. It was larger and sweet. Both are small trees and this is their first year with fruit so hopefully the Brunswick will improve to be at least edible and the Paradiso will develop an even better flavor than it has now:)

there are 5 or 6 different type of Paradiso going around. do you know which Paradiso this is?

I have heard a lot of good reviews on Brunswick. Both may not have been up to par with the weather we have had on the East Coast with the remnants of Isaac coming through.

It's from figtrees.net

I have one of each now too, but no figs yet!  The Brunswick is a rooted cutting with a very green tip still waiting for a few more lovely white roots, and the Paradiso is also in it's first year, but outside and doing fine.

I hope I can post a comparison, being in a different climate, but that may take a year or two or nine!

I bought this fig from Joe Morle and thought i was buying a Paradiso but it looiks like Joe sold me a Brunswick. After looking at the picture with the 2 side by side.   I just want to know what kind i have.  Can someone ID for me.

There were multiple mentions on this FF that Paradiso.Morle looks like a Brunswick fig...
I do not have it.

Yep- I'm chucking it after this year.  Not worth the room.

My Paradiso is figtrees.net too. It might resembles my Brunswick but they have a completely different flavor. I'll give my brunswick another year to decide but if it taste the same as this year it's out. The space and time it takes up can be used for a better flavor fig.

I got Paradisio from Joe in 08 and it's been a good producer. Up until the ants found it 3 days ago I had no complaints. As a matter of fact it wants to be a weeping plant and I'm going to stop trying to prune it into the shape I used to want. The figs are good. It's a nice variety for me. This year I rooted a bunch of Brunswicks from Monticello and just received cuttings from a new strain. I guess next year we'll see.
