Parafilm = budding tape?

Hi all
i went to Bunnings (local hardware store in Australia) to look for parafilm to wrap cuttings im trying to grow but all they had was budding tape. Is this the same thing??

thanks

yes, i think so

also something called buddy tape........its the same and even better because buddy tape is more elastic and is perforated for easy tearing

here is link

Budding tape can be anything. It probably is not Parafilm or they would say so.

Buddy tape is not the same thing as Parafilm. I used buddy tape before and it doesn't biodegrade so easily as parafilm (2 years after being used i still have pieces around tree trunks i grafted). They even advertise it as being tougher than parafilm so it can be used to tie the scions firmer than parafilm - https://www.amazon.com/Aglis-Grafting-Perforated-Zen-Garden/dp/B06XWQ5249/ref=sr_1_10?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1495266795&sr=1-10&keywords=budding+tape

Because it's tougher, if you cover the buds with it, as it would happen in a chip-bud graft, you have to be careful to remove it at the right time, as it doesn't let the bud break through as easily.
I don't use it anymore and i wouldn't use it to wrap scions for rooting.

I only use Parafilm now and when needed i use other materials to tie the scion (in whip and tongue grafts, for instance)

Thanks for the replie all. Out of the 4 cuttings I've wrapped 2. Since you mentioned that it can cause budding issues I'll probably leave it for a month and then remove.
What do you use for your grafts if u don't use this type of material or parafilm?

You don't need to remove all the tape. Just make sure that, in a month or so, you make a cut in the tape with a knife near the buds, so they can brake free without problems.

I always use parafilm on my grafts to wrap the scion. When i need a firmer tie, for instance, with whip and tongue grafts, i use natural rafia (or, in alternative, green tape, like the one used by florists - but just to tie the graft.)
