Pastiliere

Some Pastiliere figs .

Martin is this fig similar to unknown pastrielle?

Tasty looking fruit Martin. How old was the tree before it stopped dropping it's figs?

Bob

Hi Rob,
i do not have the unknown pastiliere so i cannot answer your question.
This season it still dropped fruit and still not sure if the insides of those figs on tree will be fully ripe until i cut them open.
I did have 1 this season that fully ripened. Then these came about.

Are there any other figs with a stem colored like that? it is great.

Yes i have seen similar on some negretta , ronde and a few violet de bodeaux figs. My mission may as well here and there.
Sometimes coloring is dark sometimes not as dark .

Some pastiliere figs from this morning.
Here is some discussion in this thread from last season on plant.

I will give plant more years to see if does same or not .
Comments are always welcomed.
Along with the fruit i show the Pastiliere plant in late June 2009.

Also like to mention Rouge de Bordeaux.
I read here and there its a syn for Pastiliere and also read it may be same plant ?   I have the plant and while it grew decent i pruned the main tip at about 4ft to get more lateral growth for next season.

That fruit does not look tasty to me.

Yes Jason i only ate 1 and i bet you can guess that one.
I know better than to eat an insipid fig .   ; )

Just ate one and it was good. No picture as its raining sowwy.
Next season i move tree off grass and out of mostly shade area onto the cement patio in full sun.

Some more figs now on pastiliere , ate 1 showing in first pic on tree and second picture cut and it was good as last one i ate, next season tree goes in full sun.

Really a good looker, I hope it makes the grade next year for you.

Picked these 2 today and taste was good.

Martin, between you and JD and others, I've had to replace my keyboard because of drool!

Other than what I believe is a Celeste in years past I have never had a fig that ripe.  It looks like that I will have to go the Tanglefoot and netting route along with crossing my fingers and toes, if I have any hope of getting a ripe fig!

Picked these 2 today and they were good .

The leaves look like the purple unknown I got in the spring. I am not getting my hopes up, but it looks closer to pastiliere than anything else I've seen. What I saw in the video looks very similar. One or two leaves have been perfect 5 lobers, but most are 3 with hardly any sinuses or just a single lobe. Are there other dark figs with a similar leaf variation and shape?

Can you post picture of the your tree and its fruit  ?

The lady who gave me the cuttings is away for the summer, but when she gets back I will ask her, and show her your photos. I will get some photos of the leaves to show you .

Watering trees today and came to Pastiliere in back of house and ate 2 more figs that were good.
Had a few Violet de Bordeaux as well and a few Mavra Sika's also.
No more plates of figs as trees are basically spent.

Here are some photos of that purple unknown's leaves.

Oh my that plant is just a baby and the leaves can change.
In a few seasons when it gets fruit and plant is bigger it will be much easier to tell.

Yeah, they are just babies. I was hoping to push one into production next year to find out. The mother tree was planted by this lady's granny a long time ago, and she was a rare plant person so it could be anything really. I am really hoping for Pastiliere though because these are virus free so far.
