very nice looking plant!!

Great job. Pastliere aka Hirta (Japanese name) I hear.... It is notorious for dropping fruit. Perhaps you can educate me. I know like celeste behaves the same way. Not saying they are the same but "behaves" similarly. One crop correct. I see yours is Bauds but Raintree carries one too. Your is more serrated at the end of your leaves whereas Raintree is more smoother. The reason why I'm asking is because its not only pretty and mysterious but VIGOROUS

Thanks Pete. Little one is growing nice

jennifer,

this is first time i'm growing Pastiliere. i also have one ordered from UCD to compare. not sure where Raintree got theirs. i do not see it in their current stock.

from my understanding Pastiliere will drop large portion of the figs. however, few of those that will hang in there will produce great figs. from what i have read, the Pastiliere doesn't like wet root, and it doesn't like it dry. it doesn't care too much for heavy nitrogen fertilizer. lime is a good idea.

so, i'll be keeping it in my 5:1:1 mix which drains well, but holds enough water. the tree, once grown will stay under my front porch where it doesn't get wet from the rain, but will get good amount of sun. the feed will be what they call "blooming" formula which will have less N. however, this year, i'll be pumping high nitrogen fertilizer for vegetative growth. dolomite lime will be give every 3 month, but not mixed with soil or top dress. i'll be putting three 1" hole towards the edge of the container about 2" deep and filling them with dolomite lime. i noticed that dolomite lime gets thick and muddy and can sometimes cause barrier on the top of the soil. keeping the far away from the root, i'm hoping it will allow lime to be mixed in while watering but won't cover the top of middle layer with thick mud.

martin has been growing Pastiliere for awhile. per his posts, when they hang on the tree and ripen to fullness, it's one of the best. but most of the figs will drop.  i heard he marched his to 50 gal drum for nice bonfire :)

Bullet i hope that plants does well coming from that source you have a decent chance. Mine came from you c davis a diiferent source.
It sadly did grow very well but thats about it .
