Pastiliere Fig

Pastiliere tree and 1 ripe fig. Dejavu of last season - plant dropping its figs again . This season plant placed on purpose behind home on grass and receives sun from 2'30pm till sunset.

Did a time line-dated pictures.
Still has more figs on tree .
Time will tell if they all drop or more will ripen.
Fig was little better than last season with more of a melonish type taste and sweet .
Skin was little rough for me as i ate it compared to last season as well.

Wow another beauty.I have a unknown pastrielle I hope it looks similar to this fig. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Rob,
yeah its exterior is nice but thats about it at this point in time.

Is pastrielle the same as unknown pastrielle?

Nope.

I didn't think Pastiliere could ripen here? I thought it required pollination for some reason.

Have couple of questions for you, Martin. Does your Pastiliere produces breba too or only main crop? I know it may be too early to decide, but do you think this cultivator is a keeper?

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Jason i do not know but i aim to find out one day im not going anywhere i hope.  ; )
You may remember this thread.

This is its third full season.
Plant picture taken today .
Will keep udates for the curious.

Navid thats a great question and i made several mistakes in past about that .
Here you can see this thread

In hindsight by looking at the second pictures branching structure and its date 8.29.09 comparing to third picture and its branching structure those limbs would not have been there at end of 09 season and therefore in my opinion appeared in 2010 as new and grew quickly and turn dark which i see it do .
For example of how fast it harden those limbs look at last picture in that link and with mouse scroll down till you see the 3rd fig on bottom .
Thats a tip of branch thats already turning the limb brown.

I do believe in hindsight those lower larger figs probably were main crop that first appeared in month of june which is normal here and that was all new growth in 2010 and not old growth from 2009 .

In short this season i did look at my plants more closely and knocking them off and this one had no breba unlike madeira, argentile, santa cruz dark, grise, mission and a few others.
Hope this helps and not to confusing.

Martin, thank you for taking the time and explaining it to me. My friend growing one in FL and he told me, in the past two years his Pastilier has not produced any brebas. That is why I asked you. I'll find out if it's the same case with me or not in a year or two.

Would be interesting to know if other members who have this cultivator observe the same thing.

Navid.

BTW, the link that you provided took me to the "hurricane Irene tracker" site.

I apologize for wrong link Navid. I messed that up .  ; )

Here is proper link.
