Pat's fig

Here is an unknown fig a lady gave me last year. I call it Pat's fig. Pat said this fig came with here 1890 house and 5 acre farm. She asked me to prune her tree and I did. The figs on her tree ripened in June, she brought me some. I don't know what this is. Jon said it looks like Hardy Chicago but I disagree. (sorry Jon) Pat and I sat down and ate several of these figs. They were excellent. Before I could take a picture of the inside, Pat ate the last one and I never went back to see her tree. The interior was dark red and no hollow center. It didn't taste like my Hardy Chicago. My HS is much richer in flavor. The second crop comes in July. Any idea what this fig is? Just look at the leaf pattern and shape of the fig. To me, it's not Hardy Chicago. Thanks.

doesnt look like my HC eather. the fruit looks more like my purple magnolia fruit does. my HC gets about the size of a med egg, while the purple magnolia gets larger and is more rounded than the HC. i dont have any pics of fruit but below are leaves of a young purple magnolia.

Nah all i got is that pic of a young purple magnolia that i posted on #2 later in the year i will have both. sorry its all i can do for now.

This fig is dormant now, has rid tips and tring to leaf out inside my GH.  The owner of this tree said the figs ripen in June.  It can't be Brunswick.

Sounds interesting!  Keep us posted, Dennis.

Meg, this tree in one great tasting figs. The home owner moved South and I'm hoping to get more cuttings this Spring. If the current home owner will share. It was cut way back years ago. And I don't know how it did last year. However, I was able to get one cutting that took off and grew well. Today, it sits in my greenhouse. And in 43 degree temperature the darn tree is leafing out!

ChrisK and wife stopped by Sunday afternoon. He saw it!

You can't go wrong with local finds!

Dennis are the figs that ripen in june breba or main crop figs ?

Yes.

YES TO BREBA or yes to mane crop ? ha or are you being sarcastic ha

Are the figs that ripen in june breba or main crop figs ?   Answer:  The figs that ripen in June is the breba crop.  The second main crop come later in the summer.

Looks like Atreano Purple.

I know that doesn't exist(yet), but the leaf in your picture looks very much like an Atreano leaf.

Thanks  Dennis

I figured I was being Dense

Dennis:Compare it to Ronde de Bordeaux, because it look similar to it ,fruit and leaf.!

Ronde de Bordeaux?   Hmmmmm,  I have 2 of those trees and they are the real RdB.  I also have Pasteriliere.  The figs ripen in June so hopefully they will fruit this year.  We are under a winter storm watch.  I need to run home and drag my Ronde de Bordeaux insdie my green house.  I know Pat's fig is super hardy and so is RdB.  Time will tell.  I just hope the tree is still there.  The home owner does not want the tree and it's too large for me to dig up.  I sit right up against a wooded car port.  Every year they cut it back and it come back more and more.  I got pictures of the mother tree somewhere.  If I find them I'll post them.  Local finds are the best in my honest opinion.  They are tried and true!  I jsut wish folks would keep the name of their tree on the tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dennis, there is always extreme weather for you!  I hope all is okay with the upcoming storm.  And yes, please post the pictures if you find it!  I know, I know, I know...tags are important.  I think they either fall off or people just pull them off.  I know that's what I did with my apple tree that has six varieties grafted.  I pulled off each and every tag (eek!).  Now I realize that I should have kept them all even though they looked silly hanging there.
