Pattee, please check in if you can!

Pattee, we know you hunkered down in your place on the water on long island, after you put your SUV on higher ground.  We are all worried, and those of us who believe in prayer are praying!

We are worried about you!

Suzi and the forum!!

Suzi,
I know you're concerned... odds are good that she doesn't have electrical power, but even if she does have power she's almost certainly got other priorities right now (besides this forum).  Trust the infrastructure of storm relief.  I've been through it a couple of times in the past 2 years here.  If you want to be helpful, I'd respectfully suggest that expressing worry isn't as helpful as something like visiting the American Red Cross would be... e.g. visit http://www.redcross.org

I mean no criticism by this... I know you're genuinely worried.  But truthfully, she and millions of her neighbors have other priorities right now.  Donations to the red cross actually get applied to helping people, and they have a fund directed to Sandy relief if you're so inclined.

I've already donated.  Yes, I'm very worried, and I know they all have other priorities.  I just wish we had a way of reaching her.

Suzi

If you know her real name you can check here - if she's registered.

No luck. I have their address. Not listed!

It's not a popular thing here to pray, but I do!  Pattee, God bless you.

Suzi

suzi,

i think praying is popular, some people are just shy to admit that they do it. i don't pray, not because i don't believe in it.. just that it's not something i do. i will meditate on things. but i think faith in any form or shape, even if just believing in oneself is necesarry.

i think nyc is just swamped right now and too many people are trying to get back to their normal life to log onto internet. i'm sure pattee will be back online once her family is ready for her to do so.

Praying is popular with me. It's usually prayers of thanks and prayers for others. Nothing to be ashamed of.

We'll pray that Pattie and everyone else are all right. Praying is OK by me, if they want,  people can translate that term to "thinking good thoughts"; if so, that's OK by me too. :-)

I've spoken with my family on Long Island a few times this week.  The damage is very severe plus there are issues with the local electric company.  Most of the Islands wiring is above ground since the area has been established for a very long time.  I'm sure most of you have seen pictures of the devastation, if not just do a search on Long Island destruction from Sandy.  If telephones are bundles with the local cable company - no cable, no phone.  My sister still has her land line with the phone company and amazingly she has phone service with a regular phone, not a cordless which is plugged in to an electrical outlet - no power.

I also remember TonySac!  he is on the island also as I am sure there must be plenty of others who may just lurk and voice their presence.

Anyone hear from Ed and Angelo?  They are also on Long Island.  ("ejp3"...."detomaso")

Frank

Just got a PM from Pattee.  Suffered through a lot of damages, and they still have no power.  On top of that, they are both ill and taking antibiotics.  They have no idea when their house will be repaired.

Pattee is in a real mess.  Send prayers her way.

Pattee, I wish you well, and a speedy return to a more "normal" life.

Frank

Thanks for the update Frank!  I'll be praying for her.  Sorry they are both sick, and still without power, but happy they survived!  Keep us posted now and then!

Suzi

Suz...You are welcome.

If I get any new information, I will let this forum know what's going on.  Still nothing about Ed, Angelo, and, Stefano?

Wishing Pattee and her family (and other members in similar situation) fast recovery from all the hardships they are going through.

Hello everyone ! I want to thank all of you for all your concern and prayers . They were so very much appreciated.
We survived this , feeling better and are starting to get some of the repairs of many needed. Still haven't had any contact as yet from our flood ins. Hopefully soon.
Been really busy as you might imagine - cleanup was/is a bear. Hubby lost a lost of his  power tools.
It had to have been the most scary time in my life. Seeing all that water surround the house and then pour into basement ... well . Stress levels off the charts trying to keep the sump pumps and the generator running the night of . . Seeing small waves in our backyard ! 12 days with no power, cold temps. Trying times for sure!

But fortunately we are here - feeling better with a course of antibiotics and things are starting to look up
There are still so many families that have lost everything and see no light at the end of the tunnel as yet , children , my hear breaks that they are still in dire straits.
I've been trying to catch up reading here , will take time lol. But it does give me a sense of normalcy.

I'm hoping my cutting sent to me by 2 generous members a while back will make it. It was so very cold in the house for days - time will tell. Had to throw out a few- damp /cold = mold.  But for now it's survival of the fittest !

My heartfelt thanks to all of you again . This is truly a caring , tight knit community , one I am so grateful to be a member of.
My best to all, Patti

Pattee!  I am still praying for you and yours and all the repairs you have to do.  Your flood insurance dude is probably flooded too!  Thanks so much for checking in, and I am so happy you are OK!  Fig cuttings can easily be replaced, but not you!

Good luck with all the repairs, and get well, strong and healthy!!

Suzi

Pattee, happy to hear you are ok. Been said many times all the other stuff will work itself out eventually. God bless.

So glad you and your family are OK. My family is on the north shore and the street is a large hill, unbelievably they had no flooding or damage -not even one tree fell in the yard. I am so thankfull they are OK. Stuff is just that - stuff, no way can it compare to a life. Blessings to you and your family.

U P D A T E ........Angelo and Ed (detomaso and ejp3) are OK but had power failures after the hurricane.  Little damages to their homes, thank God.  I'm sure they will both be back posting, after their lives get back in order.

Good luck guys, from Frank, and forum members.

Oh I'm so glad to hear that. Thanks Frank.

Welcome Back, Patti!

Thanks so much Bob !

Pattee glad you are ok.  Here on Long Island I lost power for 8 days, no internet or cable for another 8 but the house is ok.  Talked to Angelo and he lost power for a week but is ok.  I grow figs in 2 locations, here and at my Fathers place in Breezy Point Rockaway N.Y.   His house was partially destroyed and he has been displaced.  He was here with me but the lack of heat forced him to go to my sisters house in Staten Island ( and he is still there.  At his beach location there are no trees so the figs get full sun, consequently all of my rarest/best figs are grown there, most in pots.  They were mostly washed away and a 4 ft concrete block wall fell on my black madeira and malta black but I guess it was time to thin the herd.  I took some pictures of his place and the devastation Breezy Point suffered and may post it on the Sandy thread, but I am not sure because it is so depressing.

Ed, sorry your dad's house was destroyed, you both suffered through the storm and cold and you lost all the plants you worked so hard for.  I was born in Far Rockaway and grew up visiting my grandparents there.
