Peat Pots

I have some small peat pots hanging around and was wondering if they will work okay for my rooted cuttings? Not sure if they would cause a moisture problem.

Nichole...If you do a search of 'bullet08's posts he uses peat pots, and has given some valuable advise on the pros and cons of their use.

Nichole, I don't have any good advice for you on peat pots but I enjoyed looking over the images on your blog.  Good work!

nicole,

it sounds like you want to use them after the cuttings have rooted, and not during the rooting stage. i think most peeople use peat pot to give good root ball. once the roots start going through the peat pot, the peat pot becomes weak and will come apart.

Thanks for the tip. I tried a general search for peat pots and got results for peat mixes. I'll stalk bullet now instead ;)

We must have been typing at the same time. Yeah I'm talking about potting them into the peat pots once the roots are already started. My thought was it'd be easy to break them apart when it's time to plant them up into a bigger pot. Or alternatively, plant the whole thing, peat pot and all, into a bigger pot? Since it breaks down anyway. Not sure if that'd be a good idea.

Tried it and it works great.  If the peat pot gets completely dry, you know it is time to water.  When roots are coming through the pot, just pull it out and plant the peat pot and all in the bigger pot.  I think you need to search for "Dan's Peat Pot" method.
