Nice Pete!  I see you have several air roots too!  Blows my mind when the roots don't stay in the soil!  Those leaves and shoots look very healthy!

it must be something i'm doing wrong. but i can't think of what it is. i know in this bin, the soil has more moisture than the air. i made sure that the soil covers the peat pot completely.. this happened with my Col de Dame Blanche and Black Madeira this spring. but i'm sure if there is root up here, there will be root down in the cup :)

i didn't keep exact dates. i know it was sent out from very generous forum member on 10/27. so i must have gotten it on first of Nov. or near around there. it took 2 weeks to show enough roots to go into the cup, and another two weeks or so to get to this point. this one was unusually fast. some of same varieties from the same shipment has not even shown any roots yet. but they all have nice callus on the bottom. i'll be moving them into cup by end of this week.

That is fast Pete. i had a hardy chicago root one tome in about 2 weeks in nothing but perlite in a clay pot with a soda bottle over it. water in the drain pan i guess would soak up to the cutting and evaperate and get collected by the bottle. as the water would get low i would put about a cup or so in the perlite. it worked very well. unfortunatly the stores around here (walmart) dont have it anymore until spring.  and i have used what i have left. i put cuttings in the 21st and 24th they look good but i cant see under the soil.

one of the reason why i use baggie then cup instead of going straight to 1 gal pot is to make sure they will put roots out. i'm sure they will put them out either way, but it's more fun this way. and constant checking for root takes my mind off from wanting to water the heck out of older trees. :)

i think me always wanting to look for root growth kills my cuttings.

Congratulations!  I think you need more light.  That shoot is very stretched out.

yupe, light would be good. i'm waiting for the roots to come through the peat pot and reach the side of the cup. once i see about 3-4 of those roots, i'll move it into 1 gal container. in spring, i would take it outside once it reaches this point, but since it's not very cutting friendly outside now days, it will stay in the bin until roots go through the peat pot. once moved to 1 gal container.. i haven't figured out what to do yet. too many cuttings to set up the light system. and this is going to be my last sesion doing mass rooting.
