Peters Honey in Toronto

Ok here are some pics of my Peters Honey this is my 2nd Plant both from Monrovia the first one I got as a birthday gift and the figs have been golf ball shaped and sized for nearly a month now but this one the figs are growing quite nicely.

Nelson, very nice looking tree and loaded for it's size. Looks like it won't be long you'll be tasting it. I'm sure the heat wave you're having will help it out. Let us know what it tastes like.

Hey Tim, Its been humid like crazy here for the last couple days plants need to be watered twice a day to keep them alive, this peters honey is around 4ft from the soil line. Cant wait to eat these figs, I been buying figs at a local market 2 dozen for 5 bucks they are OK but I want to eat my own from my own plants.

What kind of figs are they selling? I've tried the ones in the grocery store for $5-$6 per lb.(I guess they are Bl. Mission) but don't have much flavor. I guess picked too early.

Hey Tim they are black mission but like you said picked early they are better than nothing but after eating a dozen my Tongue does feel a little rough. Some of them were pretty big though allot bigger than usual for the black mission figs I have seen at the stores.

please, could someone comment does Nelson's fig look like Peter's Honey fig or some another type of fig?
thank you all.

***** to me it's not Peter's Honey fig?

sfrj funny you wrote that, Last night my dad took that plant home and spilled some of the soil from the pot to find another label that was buried in the soil still attached to the trunk. Guess what the other label said BROWN TURKEY this gets better and better every year. Anyone have a Monrovia Brown Turkey to compare with this plant? I Will take pics of both my Monrovia plants side by side this weekend.

Well that is a bit of bad news---too bad! Don't ya' hate getting ripped off?

Nelson,

If there's any consolation, The tree is very healthy and full of fruit.
Just need to identify it for sure.

Either way, You still come out a winner.
Enjoy your fruit.

Thanks guys I have my doubts that its a brown turkey or any of the dark figs monrovia sells for that matter, the only other white fig monrovia sells is Kadota and I have that as well and leaves dont match this plant. Oh well time will tell what it is, hope it ripes soon as im jonesing to eat some fresh figs.

Lets compare,

This is my Peters Honey from Monrovia. I HOPE!

Thanks for posting the pics Rafed, I will take pics of my two plants side by side this weeekend, wish I would of left the plant here another day to take pics of the leaves but its 20km away now.

I must say one thing though my first peters honey shows not signs of fmv and this new one sure does on the newer leaves.

Ok I finally took some pics of this plant this weekend Definately not a peters honey two of the figs are now getting blushes of purple. This is the plant that had two labels, Peters Honey & Brown Turkey. Anyone have pics of a Brown Turkey from Monrovia

that looks a lot like my BT.  suggestions given by the pink tight eye, the white freckles all over and the general size and shape of the fruit and leaf.

Thanks Jason, after I really looked at both the Peters honey plants side by side they look nothing alike not in leaf shape or fig shape. This one plant did come with two labels the brown turkey label was buried under the mulch it had on top starting to make more sence. Thanks for replying. Do you have any pics of your BT?

there are a few here and there around the forum.  want me to go snap some off?  i have been wanting to do it, just to show the incredible variety you find in the leaves of my tree.

Sure would love to see them.

here are some of the figs

You want to talk about leaf variation, and why with many varieties leaf shape is a worthless indicator of variety?  Look at this series - these are some of the many different leaves on my BT, all of which you should be able to find using the last two pics:

AND HERE ARE THE DOMINANT LEAF SHAPE.....

ahh you guys and your VW's... if they ran on veggie oil, then I'd be interested! They're one of the easiest cars to convert, if you have a diesel.
