Peter's Honey vs. Lattarula

Hi all,
two questions:
I have a Peter's Honey. I am slowly expanding my collection while trying to avoid duplication due to space.
On the f4f varietal page, PH lists Italian Honey as a syn. Then IH says see Lattarula.
Lattarula then lists as syn- IH, Blanche royale, Lemon, Marseilles etc.
Are they the same, similar, distinctly different.

Also, I will be in NC next week, Edible Landscaping would be a 90 minute detour on the way home? Go/don't go/opinions welcome.
Thanks
John G.

Peters honey has a very chewy skin in my opinion

IH, Lattarula, Marseilles, St Anthony's and Lemon are the same.

In my opinion, PH, Kadota, and Dottato are the same. Figs and leaves are identical ( Unless in my collection they were mislabeled).

They are OK figs.

IH and others have ribs on the outer edges that seem to soften as it gets closer to ripe stage with a white interior.

PH and others seem to be elongated and freckled with small white spots with a pinkish orange flesh.

Good figs but after having them, I wouldn't recommend them.

Lots of figs that are the same wind up with different common names hence the confusion. It is difficult to know unless you've grown them and compared.

I would definitely make the detour and visit Edible Landscaping, would love to join you!

Sorry to disagrees Dom.

I have never hid the fact I end up with kadota type figs more than any one else even though i am a little embarrased. I lived in istanbul turkey and brought fig wood back that turned out to be kadota. At least 8 kadota varients in my collection. Even one I should trash since every other fig is inside out. Peters honey is not kadota in my opinion never have I had a kadota that won't die to the ground.
2 years ago I put my peters honey in ground to let it die and didnt protect it the this took off no damage at all and has Breba no one in my zone could say that about kadota. I cant even kill the stupid thing woth the snow we had 2 winters ago. Plus kadota skin is tough but not like this ph is like bubble gum to me.

Doesn't bother me-LOL- I don't like either.

Do you at least like them? I think they are ok. For some reason the PH tasted like cantaloupe but it may have been overripe.

It's funny- they one I have labeled PH has inside out figs, but the Kadota is fine.

Want a 9th? ;-)

Lol no thanks I'm good.

What i do like is they are reliable and i can always make jams. You want some of mine? Cone ob down rent a uhaul though
Plant you ph in ground and don't protect it you'll he surprised.

As it is I have to thin my collection out eventually

But Dom you have that crazy one that looks like a weeping willow. That think looks really neat

I put it in the ground just to see if it takes. By the way I  have more then you probably think. It's actually pretty pathetic.

Thanks for the smile. :)

Here's some pics:

Peter's Honey

They do look a bit different but I'm still not sold either way.

As long as the weather is hot and dry kadota produces very good figs with dependable production and FMV resistance in my experience . If maturing figs during wet weather then forget it .
My Peters Honey is not the same as my Kadota . Ph is bigger too.

John

PH is different than Lattarula.
Talking about the P H I had:It was similar to Kadota dotato etc,and not adapted well to my climate.
In long hot Summer it was good in Rainy Summer forget about it ,it would not ripe well, and so it is gone to Virginia Farm, where I  have a hint it can be good.
Lattarulla (with honey interior),also called It. Honey,St Anthony ,is much better here ,in NJ.
St Anthony,is Identical to Italian Honey but the plant I got,it performed much better last Summer in adverse rainy condition, much better than the other Italian Honey I had,so I keep St Anthony from this kind.

EL is worth the visit if only to see the variety of plants they offer.  Might be able to find a decent deal on figs too!  It's a nice drive and a neat place to visit.

Thanks everyone.
Still have the room so PH is not going to compost just yet.
I have the time so going to try to stop at EL, as long as my back is okay after a week of scuba diving.
EL has LSU Purple, maybe I will look at that.

I will trade you something in the fall/winter for Peter's Honey.  I will have Panache, Strawberry Verte and possibly a lot of other ones depending on how well they grow.  I tried to root a Peter's Honey and it's taking it's sweet time.

Something in me keeps telling me to keep my PH.  I don't know why.   I have one in my orchard right in front of my Italian Honey. I cut my tree down to 3 feet last winter and it has already reached 7 feet tall and full of figs!  In the past, the figs on my tree were OK tasting.  I am hoping they will get larger and sweeter this year.  My PH, IH and Latturala are not the same tree.  And my Latturla is not the same as my White Marseilles.  They are totally different trees.  Some of you guys have a good strain of PH.  My PH figs are small and does have a mild honey taste.  For  a big honey flavored fig, I may swap out my PH for a Votata.  For now, I got my fingers crossed on my PH.

The first picture is of my Lattarula.  The second photo is of my Peters Honey.  Both purchaced from Edible Landscaping at the same time.  The Peter's honey had a L.E. Cooke tag on it when it arrived.  I would give away this plant to whoever wants it.  I just can't bring myself to throw it away.  If these are the same variety they don't share the same virus tolerance.    Any thoughts?   If they are the same I don't need that ugly PH sitting around.

Latarrula is reliable here. Taste pretty good if allowed to fully ripen. Also makes good tasting BBQ figs.

Peter's Honey -- gone to fig heaven. Needs much more heat to ripen.

Maybe I'll try what the Celt tried and I'll put it in the ground and see if I can kill it.

Thought I would update the Peter's Honey.

Second year, it is setting more figs than any other.

Notice how clean the leaves are? It's been a cold and rainy year so far.

Ever think of tossing a fig due to FMV?  Last year this one almost went Bye Bye.   Give it a year...........
