Photo of breba set on Albanian fig

albanian-sm.jpg

There is probably 50 breba figs on this 5 year old container fig.  I don't have any other varieties that come anywhere close to this number.  Last year we had 7 weeks of rain while they were ripening and they did not have a great flavor.  I'm looking forward to see what they ripen like this year.

Wow!  I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of them!

Nice bunch of figs...hope they all ripen for you...enjoy!

Does this variety have a name? I'm always eager to try varieties that bear heavy breba crops.

I just call it Albanian because it is a fig collected in Albania that Davis sent me a few years back because they new I was trialing figs in the cold cold north.  It's primary crop seems to be the breba crop.

So did Davis think this one was good for the cold cold north because it would set a very early crop?  Just wondering if it is also known to be hardy, or just early ripening via an impressive breba crop.  Again, thank you....nice to see people growing figs in areas colder than me :)

Haha.  It was a cutting that was included with my order and only had the accession number on it.  It took me 3 or 4 years to understand why they sent it to me because it was just included with my order with no explanation.  & the first couple years it didn't have such extraordinary breba production.
