Picked up a MYSTERY fig.

Hello all,

I made a trip down to Vista, CA and visited Exotica rare fruit nursery and Clausen nursery.

I picked up a Purple Smyrna from Exotica and...
A "Hurricane" Fig tree from Clausen.

Has anyone heard of a hurricane variety? The nursery owner said it was a cutting from a customer of his.
The leaves are HUGE and broad. Don't see any fruit but the leaf-stem nodes have buds.

Attached are pictures of the leaves.

Congrats on your find!  I have a mystery fig too!  It was a cutting that slipped into of the peat that I used to use for cuttings, and after a while, I mixed it all with perlite, and found this little guy with roots and leaves!  Have no clue what it is, but it has to be something good!  Time will tell.

As for your hurricane.... keep us posted!!

Suzi - maybe I will have more success with that technique!

Do you recall which varieties Clausen's had? I may need to take a trip in that direction.

Hurricane is supposed to be a green fig.

Is it worth the drive from La Mesa?

Ah! So there is a hurricane! I wonder if its any good. Anyone tried it?

Clausen had the garden variety cultivars they had quite a few
Black mission, kadota, Osborne prolific. And a few "hurricanes". They were out of everything else.
