Pics! Acciano, Salce, and Troiano Calabrese

Just wanted to make this thread with links to all three of these varieties in one place.

These figs come to the US direct from Italy via a fellow forum member.

They have been grown successfully in central KY (zone 6) for many years now. Some are grown in a greenhouse that is not completely enclosed in winter. While many trees are grown outside in-ground year-round (all successfully producing ripe fruit).

Acciano is a large fig that produces even larger brebas. Mario says the brebas are "the size of baseball". Maybe a little exaggeration but still reported to be quite large and very sweet & delicious.

Troiano Calabrese is the third in Mario's top 3 favorite figs. Large green figs with a golden interior. Said to be 'super sweet like honey'.

Please enjoy the pictures found in these links:

Salce is more of a medium size fig but is reported to be one of the best figs ever. The pictures speak for themselves.
The 4th picture shows Troiano in the lower right with Salce in the upper left:

The pictures really tell the story. All delicious looking, must have, figs!

Hope you've all enjoyed this post

Hi Bill,

Just wanted to let you know that the last link for the Calabrese fig doesn't work.

Angela

Thanks Angela.

Let's see if it works here.

That link seems to be working now.

Bear in mind that even though Mario may have been referring to that fig as Atreano in that thread it is actually Troiano Calabrese. It took him awhile to chase down the actual name of the variety he had. His family in Italy asked around for him and finally pinned down the correct name of the variety.

It also important to note that this is the fruit that Mario produced at his home near Morgantown, Kentucky.

Beautiful fig :-)!
