Sorry for the stupid question but how can you tell when these or desert king are ripe?

Yes Giuseppe -- spelling error. Came from Adriano.

@Pino - mostly confirmed by touch after sighting change in color & degree of
swelling. Unfortunately every fig ripens differently. With Filacciano there was just
a slight droop and presence of mild softness. I have some difficult ones like Morena,
Valliery, Stella(Dalmatie) etc. 

Mine ripened last year.
