pimples? call the doctor

My Versailles has some new growth and is obviously new figlets.  I won't need any pimple medication thankfully.

Since this is my FIRST is this a breba crop starting or the beginning of the main crop to mature later in the summer?

I added an attachment because I cannot figure out how to add pictures to the main message.  I know someone asked recently but I can't find the post.

Hard to see from your photo as the stem is shaded. The way to tell is if the fig is forming on old wood, last year's growth, with brown bark it is a breba. If it is forming on a green stem, new growth formed this year, it is a main crop fig.

Dennis I believe the way to determine is to check out the wood its on (others please corect me if I am wrong). If it is hardened off wood from last fall its a breba and if its on this years new growth it is the main crop.

It's hard to tell for sure due to the fact it's shaded and hard to see exactly what's going on.  But I'm thinking it's probably main crop, not brebas, because there are also leaves at the same node.  That means it's new growth since breaking dormancy.  Brebas form on the previous season's growth.  So if it were brebas, I wouldn't expect to see any adjacent leaves.

Just thought of it, "proactive for figs", supresses all breba and turnd them into main crop.

thanks for the feedback.  There are definitely some figs starting and I am excited about that.  I know the picture is not good but the particular 'pimple is now about 1/4" diameter.  If it will take a few months for this to ripen then I think this is the begining of the main crop.

Congratulations either way!

Being your very first  .
Congratulations !

It appears if the plant is oriented the same way in the photo as my screen that it is a breba figlet. unless there was a leaf in the same area that has been broken off the main crop fig should set ontop of the leaf axle. breba would set on old wood and main crop would be ontop of the leaf axle.

Thank you for your input.  I am now more confused...

The larger figlet is on old wood - just below the new green growth.  But - there are quite a number of small 'starts' in the leaf axels both above this figlet and on other branches.  I have a lot to learn...

hI Dennis,
no need  to be confused.
it just seems you have a breba and main crop forming at same time on the plant.

yeah for me.  brebas and new crop all at once.  Actually, I can't wait to try one of the figs.  This is just as good as waiting for some of my orchids to bloom except that I get to eat the flower here.

It takes a while, be patient. They will grow in size to a point and then stand still for what seems an eternity. When they are ready they swell and the stem starts to droop then it's time to eat and enjoy

sounds good to me...
