Pine bark fines/ Soil conditioner in NJ?

I'm in central nj. Where can I get pine bark fines or soil conditioner (aged pine bark fines). Agway? I guess I need half a pallet. Thanks

I was also thinking about cocoa hulls, but if I can't even find pine bark fines then I'm never going to find that. Not even sure if it would be good for figs, just a thought.

Agway's Pine Bark Mulch. I've been using it in my 5-1-1 mix, successfully. Sku # 10202313

Found it at Agway after reading this Topic Last year on Pine Bark Fines.

2 votes for Agway. The Lowes by me just started carrying suitable pine bark fines but it isn't as nice as Agway's. Cocoa hulls aren't very good. I tried them last season.

Agway's PBM is the best $ value I found.
Almost 'orchid' grade...

Just bought the Agway product about 2 weeks ago...works great...I use it in conjunction with ProMix HP in a 50/50 mix...it's not quite as fine as some other pine fines, but it's way cheaper($6.59 for a 3 cu ft bag), and it gets the job done...I use the Agway in Raritan, N.J., and while I was there I noticed they had fig trees for sale(2 yr. old trees), so I bought a Black Spanish, an Italian Everbearing, and a Celeste for $23.99 each(with a 1 yr. guarantee)...they're nice looking trees too(not sticks either, they actually look like trees).

Sweet, raritan is on the way to my parent's house in Whitehouse. I will stop by this weekend. Don't tell anyone else!!! :-)

Figs love alkaline soil, and pine bark is the opposite.

Suzi

Suzi the pine bark is for drainage and to keep the soil from compacting over time. We counteract the acidity with a handful of lime. Good point.

Price quoted above must be that the item is currently on sale.
It is usually a little higher (10_ish) - time to stock up!

The (nominal) size is 1/2" (and NOT the typo '12 inches') in the description.

Also, this product has minimal by products (e.g., wood chips), as compared
with similar products; say from Timberline.

That 12" was pretty funny. (Fig geek humor.) I know I'm not supposed to, but his is really getting expensive. I have 400 figs in production. I use this mix for my baby figs but I'm looking at $1,200 to uppot this summer. Can I do a 25% pro mix HP, 25% PBF, and 50% good compost n sand based topsoil?
