Pins for general info?

Is there anyway to do pins for soil/recipes, amendments, possible fertilizers, and other general info.

I know Al has a lot of info spread through out the internet as well as everyone else. Some pins for general info would be very handy, and would save a lot of time. Would also cut down research time, and the info would be up to date. There is a ton of great information, but a lot of us cant find it easily if at all. When we do some/most of it is way outdated.

Would be a great way to put knowledge from older growers in the hands of new growers. Would give more experienced growers a place to compare growing parameters. We could throw related links into the thread. Would also keep a lot of the repeat questions down.

let me know if this is completely insane.

It's completely insane.  And already available  :)  Look in start here, one of 2 pins at the top.  Not everything will be covered, though.  Everyone has their own opinion on fertilizers and many other issues.  At least half the people will tell you the opposite of what I would about fertilizer.  If you read the posts on rooting in sphagnum you'll see a guy say what works best for him.  I've tried that exact method and never had a single success with it.  Some things will produce different results in different areas based on factors we don't know about.  Differences in watering practices, day/night temp differences, soil factors and things we might not know are important vary from grower to grower and region to region and none of us knows how to fully take these things in to account.  So for some things you'll have to experiment and become your own expert.  Eventually you'll find some people who's methods seem to work better for you than others so you'll listen to them more.

Thanks rcantor.  I see that you are in KC I live close to Columbia MO. How did you like Oregon? My sister just move to Portland about a year ago and loves it.

I'm going to be heading up to KC in July for a show at the sprint center.

Oregon is amazingly beautiful.  If you like cities Portland is great but I lived in a small town in SW OR.  It's surrounded by BLM land and that's surrounded by Forest Service land.  That's my cup of tea.  Also less rainy than PDX.  Not the best place for figs, though.  Baust is in SE NE.  We have a few people in our area but nothing like NJ or even TX.

Ya, I know when I say something about figs here people look at me like I'm crazy. I ask people if they have ever eaten a fig and I always get the same answer or some variation of "I've had fig newtons." lol

I would prefer the country to. I would love to move out that way somewhere like Washington state or Oregon. I doubt I ever will though.

I used to live in Columbia, MO and only became educated about fresh figs once I moved to Maryland.  I miss the midwest for other reasons though.

Anyway, I think you have a good idea but as Bob said the devil is in the details.  As you may have noticed if you have research just within this forum on what type of soil is best for figs in containers there are a lot of differing opinions.  Some of the threads have become contentious so deciding whose party line to go with for the pinned article would be difficult to say the least.

Ingevald also is in lawrence ks. and moshepherdess is in MO. probably a few more  so a few fig nuts in this area .

Rewton, I did notice all the variations. I wasn't sure if there was a general consensus on parameters or if every likes something different. I started will Al's 5:1:1 mix, but I have slightly modified it as well so I see your point. What made me think about this was the lime question. I had no idea about top dressing with that much lime. Seems like anytime anyone asks a question they get answered with links to great info that I have never seen. Would love to see all that info in a central location, and not lost to the web.
