Pittsburgh Pa fig people

Hi guys,

Ive been in the shadows for a few years now.  Figure its time to introduce myself.  My name is Bob and I live a little south of Pittsburgh Pa.  I'm interested in growing pretty much everything, especially stuff that is unusual.  I only have a few figs at the moment.  I have hardy chicago, celeste, an unknown green fig, and another unknown green fig I got from a local forum member 2 years ago.

I have a question for any local members that might be able to help.  I have been told about an older gentleman in Rostraver on 51 that sells fig trees and produce out of his yard.  I found mention of him online but it was from 2006.  A friend of mine stopped and talked to him around 10 years ago but cant remember where exactly it was.  My friend said he tasted some of this gentlemans fresh home grown figs and they where really good.  Does anyone know this guy or have contact info for him?  If he is still around I'd like to talk to him and pick his brain about growing figs in our area and see what varieties he grows.

Thanks guys!

There's a good guy called Matt-in-Pittsburgh

Hi Bob,

I live and work maybe 15 miles from Rostraver.  I have never heard of this individual, but I this is only my second year growing figs.

There are a number of us in the SW PA area growing figs, several with much more experience than I.  If you have specific questions about growing, ask on the forum since many others grow in similar climates or pop me a PM and I can share what I know (learning all the time)

Welcome to the forum. Have you tried searching online on newspaper sites as well? They might've mentioned him at some point. I'm northeast of the city, rarely ever go south of the Mon though
