PIX: Genovese Nero

not ready yet. one of them dropped while i was watering. but this one held on. hoping it will turn color completely in next few days for take.

Good luck!

I thought when they sagged down like that, they were ready. If that isn't the case how do you tell?

the fig should be soft to touch. the color should be evenly turned. the fig should be have little winkle to it. this one was hanging down more due to its own weight.

it's sort of strange. but the one that dropped was heavy. White Greek and Longue D'Aout is bigger, but i didn't see them hanging down like this before.

Maybe that's why some of mine tasted like s@$#, I have been picking them too soon.
Thanks Pete!

Hey Pete, thanks for posting these pics- when did these start to rippen? I had a few figs rippen on mine about a week ago- they looked liked this after 2-3 days from when they started to rippen and then by day 5-6 they were much darker and soft

it started turning color today. yesterday, it was still green. i think 3-5 more days and i should be ready. then again, Kathleen's Black will turn black really quick, then hang in there for awhile like VdB.

It's funny how each fig variety develops and ripens their figs differently.  I guess it just takes time and experience to know when to pick each type.  Thanks for sharing these photos, Pete.

Looks great Pete. Hope this one gives you the wow factor, it certainly is rated a high fig by many in the know.

the fig is heavy and slow to ripen here. and rain isn't helping. so far, about 4 dropped without ripening. they were rather heavy when i held it in my hand after being dropped. when opend, still raw. there are 4 or so left on the tree. hope they will ripen soon.

Pete,
Once mine was at that stage, it took 3 days. Good luck!
