PIX: Genovese Nero and CdDB.

both first yr putting on the figs. Genovese Nero needs few more yrs to bring out the taste it seems. it wasn't bad, it was just bland. had a good size void in the middle. couldn't pick any taste out of it.

CdDB on the other hand, it was few days early. i wasn't sure what i was looking for. now i do. but the taste was definitely there. i think once it's properly ripen, it will be very good fig. have few more hanging on the tree.

Pete, my Genovese Nero picked from a small potted tree in mid-July had a darker color than that and had pretty good flavor.  Really surprised me, especially for a small tree and still in my shade house.

harvey, i would imagine so. the pix i have seen are darker. i waited longer than my usual wait to take this off. it was ripe. no latex at the neck what so ever. the color of the fig is more red than black to me. i got this cutting from very well respected member of this forum who got it directly from adriano, so i don't have doubt as to what it is. we'll see what comes out of it in next couple of yrs.

if you have pix of your GN leaf, can you post it?

My dad had picked my fruit for me while I was out of the country and refrigerated it and I ate it a few days later.  See photo below.  Mine was bought from Robert D. who obtained it from Rafed.  This is a photo just taken now.  I have a couple of others that were planted in the orchard a few weeks ago.

harvey, the leaf shape is same. the fig shape is also same.. maybe it mine didn't get enough sun or something. not sure. i think i have one more fig left on the tree. i'll let it hand and droop and see :)

Okay, I found a picture of the Genovese Nero picked in July:

Note, it had been sitting on a plate in the refrigerator for a while so I think that made it flatten out on the bottom.

harvey, here is the outside pix of the fig.

Just guessing, but maybe the rainy weather resulted in a more watery fig for you.  We had 15 seconds of rain the other night (but a heavy rain, LOL) but that was the first rain for months.

yupe. probably the weather this yr. and few mistakes i made.

Hi Pete

CdDB looks beautiful, where'd you get yours??

rafael, i got it from USDA/UCD. it's their Col de Dame. they do not specify it as blanc or noir.. but we know it's blanc.

Man, You have the best White figs.

nelson, have you tried pinching it?

so, there was one fig on GN left. so i left the fig on the table in the back deck hoping more exposure to sun will bring better color and better interior. well.. i was wrong. some bird, i'm thinking crow.. took the fig down and took a bite out of it. hope next yr it will bring better looking and better tasting fig.

had another Genovese Nero last night. it was about same as others. why could be wrong with it? maybe it was mislabled? the fig itself looks similar, but not the same as other members. the leaf looks similar, but the leaf can some times look similar and not the same fig. the fig is not turning dark like others when exposed to full sun all day long.

i'll keep the tree and monitor further next yr.

Hi! Pete,

Thank you for posting your nice photos. Can you please compare the taste between your Col De Dame Blanc and Black Madeira? Thank you.

Best,
Tam
