--- PIX: Long Yellow main

Huge figs, like pears, with looong necks. This year every leaf has a fig, I started pinching early.
They are not ripe yet, I think they will get bigger yet. I have purchased large organza bags just for them. Very excited!
Yes, all the figs were pollinated by the wasps.

Very unusual fig Igor, let it overripe in the bag...i can't wait to see the insides .

Igor,

Nice presentation, pictures and gorgeous figs !
Looking at that emerald green skin full of white dots I am inclined to believe that they were given in time,  some precious 'golden powder' ...thus boosting their qualities, I am very curious to see the next batch of pictures..
Well done

Francisco

Wowie, these look great you lucky figger. I have some first year trees of this variety, but here in the Northeast, they are very late. I look forward to further reports.

Thank you!
Last year I had only 2 figs, this year -many.
I think what made the trick was the location and the soil.
I repotted it in a #7 pot and added plenty of homemade compost based on my kitchen scraps and placed the pot shaded in the sunniest spot.
This fig loves the sun for sure!

My starts of this variety were grown from green cuttings last fall. They were very slow until we got heat out here, but now they are really taking off. They are in medium pots now. Each has a fig forming and I think I'm going to leave one fig per start unless I hear otherwise. The starts are about 4.5 feet tall now. Enjoy!

Shailesh,
This is the main crop and the variety has two similar names: Long Yellow or Long Neck Yellow.

However, the two you mention are different figs (see discussion in Fig of the Day).

I am aware of those two slightly different names but so far not convinced those figs are different.

Hi Igor,

Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos of your Long Yellow.   I have two started this year, which are quickly filling their 1 gallon pot.   Jon's Fig Fiesta last year was my first introduction to Long Yellow and I so look forward to mine fruiting next year.

BTW…. Is this fig picture in a five gallon pot?

Jack,

The pot is a black nursery #7 that I purchased at OSH. I have not measured the volume, I think it is 5 gal or more and I filled it to the very top.  The website says 15" wide 11.5" tall

Congratulations!

Igor, your dedication to your new  plants is really paying of.  I am so happy to witness this.  As to this amazing long neck.... I  finally had enough of waiting or my 2nd set of cuttings to put out roots in moss- over  a month. Enough time, right? I opened the box outside and the cuttings look like were about to die. I dipped them in warm water and the hot sun made their tips show me a bit of green...so to the next method. I planted them in gallon pots and covered with bottomless bottles, very little moist in the soil and placed them under filtered sun by other plant leaves.   I hope the hot days will make them root.  I had a batch of DK... they started to mold and nothing I could do to stop, so I shoved them all in a pot and put them outside under a bottomless bottle. Today I noticed 2 of them have leaves and are growing. I guess some of them like to be neglected or the overzelousy is what kills them.

So, if my long neck does not root... I think I will ask you to root a tiny tip for me. I have 3 amazing little plants from you, that survived the week lost in the mail..they are all doing very well. Thank you.  Good luck with your figs.

Thanks, Grasa!
I feel bad that the LY tip I sent you didn’t grow. Now I can offer you something better!
If yours do not grow again, I can make you an air layer. See below, I have one nice sucker that is perfect for it!

Hi Greenfig,
Indeed a beautiful and original fig.
Congrats ! That's a nice tree to have in a collection.

Wow, those fig look great!

Ok! Here it is a final product!

A very large, very juicy, beautiful fig. Tastes like a sweet melon, not crunchy. It is a welcome taste for me after eating the Golden Celeste, St. Verte, Adriatic Grasa for a while.
Definitely a keeper.
Very productive, every leaf has a fig.
Notice the dripping honey is the mesh bag :)

Enjoy!

My LY is a vigorous grower and had figs, which I removed, while going through the rooting process.

Amazing!  if you have enough of a harvest, you ought to sell and ship them in coolers. ah... that would be super special. I wonder if this fig ever would grow here, we simply do not have a long hot season.  It is hot now, but we may not have more than one month of hot summer days.  Maybe with extention of cold frame/greenhouse... I really like this, your way of showing is not shy of been a TEASER!

That's a one Beautiful Fig Igor ;)
That new branch from the base of the tree could easily be air-layered by setting a slit one gallon on the surface of the soil.

Yes, it is perfect for an airlayer but a bit too short for a 1 gal pot.
I either wait until it is taller or use a smaller cup/pot

put less dirt
