Here is my cutting rooted this year. Very nice grower!
I know I have to remove the figs but I just cannot, they are so beautiful!
It is in a 1 gal pot.

It looks good.

I almost lost my Pastillere in its 5 gallon container to mice or rabbits. I still have hope that it might be on its way back! See todays picture.

Wow!
Those mice and rabbits should be ashamed of!

Nice!  I'd leave one on.

I would be tempted to leave them on too, the plant looks vigorous enough.

Greenfig: Very nice and healthy tree. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

Looks too good to knock them out. I have a couple of Green Ishia here with the same dilema.. I just do not have the courage to do.  All literature I have read says not to allow them to produce in the first 3 years, but to focus on the 'shaping' of the tree. yours is a cute tree.

It's early in the season, your plant is very healthy, you are in SoCal where it's warmer longer, and there are only two fruits.

If it were my plant, I'd definitely leave 'em on. :)

I've got Black Madeira and UCD Black Ischia of the same age and relative health with fruits.
You can bet I'm not going to remove those.

Ok, I keep them on!
My Black Madeira is from the last year and is quite larger. Although last year I didn’t have any figs since a stupid squirrel bit off the young green top of the tree and it took all summer to recover :(

Hi greenfig,
I would leave the figs on - if more appear I would knock off the tiny ones asap.
Pastiliere is a good grower, I would up pot to give more strength to the tree - just my 2 cents.
Funny those round shaped leaves ... My Pastiliere/"Rouge de Bordeaux" shows fingers in the leaves, 3 to 5 fingers per leaf.
Mine is in something like a 5 gallons pot with removed bottom - the plan being to let the roots escape to the dirt while protecting some rootmass from the damn rodents ...
The pot is only half buried, and I expect that to provide some heat to the plant, especially at winter and spring time (in Zone7) .
Mine showed no brebas, and is now showing pea-sized  "maincrop"  ( as expected as Pastiliere is a unifera strain) .

Hi,

This is an update with one beautiful fig getting ripe!
I hope to taste it and the challenge it real from below and above this year. Because of a draught in CA, everything juicy is eaten immediately :(

how beautiful. Thanks for sharing.  Mine did not produce any brebas, only main and I have a few also.  Just cannot wait to taste them.

You guys Pastiliere is not supposed to have Breba...Am I wrong?

Ok, here is a dead ripe Pastiliere with a drop dead taste!
11 on a scale 1 to 10.
This is the best for me this year, and with the highest acidity level.
Love it! Closed eye, juicy, beautiful fig. I can see why this classic variety is so praised !

The taste profile is between the bing sour cherries and very sweet raspberries.

And this is from a cutting rooted this February!
I can only imagine what taste will be in a few years when the tree is more mature.

Enjoy the photos.

The photo with two cut figs on a plate is of the Pastiliere and an HdA (I will post more about it in a separate thread)

Igor,
Great looking fig. Which Pastiliere: UCDavis, Jon's Unknown, other? I found the answer (UCDavis) in your HdA thread. Thanks!

Thank you!

JD, honestly, we should ask Grasa that question...
The cuttings of this Pastiliere I obtained from her with a note that in Washington the tree was not very happy.

I also have an Unk. Pastiliere, covered in figs but they are still tiny. I will post a fig photo of it to compare with this Pastliere.

Igor,

Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations.. these are gorgeous figs and fantastic, professional pictures!

Time to remember what Gustav Eisen said about Pastilière...

Francisco

Eisen Book_Pastillière.jpg

Francisco, that description along with the picture of the fruit is almost  comparable to those you show us. (teasing us!!!)

A very impressive showing indeed.

Francisco, are you saying..or is Gustav saying that the fig that Igor has is not the Pastiliere, but some other very good fig misidentified as Pastiliere?

Great looking fig none the less. Igor, did you happen to see the wasps visiting this fig? Just wondering seeing as many waspless people have stated that it tended to drop all it's figs.

Calvin,

Interesting observation! The leaves on my fig plant in the post #1 are similar to the Gustav’s drawing and the worded description but the fig itself is different.
It is surely not elongated !
Francisco, I second the Calvin’s questions …

As a note, the Pastiliere on the Baud’s page is also not elongated:

I hope mine is the Pastiliere, it is a super fig!
