Planning a fig growers meeting

Sal, are you using the term fig as an acronym? F.I.G .... F*** Italian Guy? In Wisconsin we affectionately refer people from Illinois as F.I.B's ... F**** Illinois Bastards. No Joke ask any true blooded cheesehead.

-Little John

Little John,
I live in Toronto and travel to Buffalo regularly for work.

I would love to be able to meet up with you guys in August and will definitely try.  I encourage others in southern ON who are interested to touch base with me, perhaps we can meet up there.
Bass, your idea is fantastic, I think it may a be a bit far for me to travel, but who knows what the future holds.

Nas

p.s.  I wish there was an exception for fig trees crossing the borders.  The restriction is really stupid.

Nas,

I know of someone who's brought back figs across the border. If you get caught just plead ignorance and beg forgiveness.

-Little John

Sal,
So that is the story of the origin of the fig "Fito Genovese" later called Fico Genovese! ?

Hi Little John,
grew up here in illinois never thought the wisconsin folks thought of us like that especially us Italians.  ; )
Hmm i learned something today, next time i go fishing up north i better hide my horn on my chain i wear .
Best Health

Nas,

If you can get as far as exit 18 on the NYS Thruway (New Paltz/ Poughkeepsie), I still have space for at least 1 and maybe 2 more Kanuks.  Marjo has tentatively booked a space with me and possibly Nelson.  There is a pretty decent park-and-ride lot just outside of the exit where I could meet you and where you can leave your car.  You could nap down and back.

Obviously, people may change there mind...several times...between now and then, and I could have more space but there must be a way we can relay/shuttle people from long distances.

Now that I think about it, I could always tie someone to the roof rack. ;-)  It's been done before.  Honest!

C.J.

Hey Martin,

No offense, there are those in WI who use that colorful acronym (FIB), myself not included. I think there are a lot of cheeseheads who don't like paying tolls down your way. We don't have tolls in WI. The Italian thing was a question, I'm not sure where the fig thing comes in with Sal's reference.

Curious,
Little John

No no offense taken.
I hate them tolls as well its a scam as originally they were meant to pay  the cost of building the system and not maintaining them like they claim now , they keep raising the tolls too. Same thing with our politics all baloney here in illinois i speak off just like the gov election we just had. Im otta here when kids grow up to a nicer climate.
Sorry to get off track.

Bass,  count me in too.  April 17/18 is better, but I can make on the 24/25 too. It would be great to meet Bill from Jersey.  I was intrigued by his method and plan to try it this season on a couple trees.  Seeing his set up would be cool- but it would be equally cool to see your set-up Bass.  Either way, count me in.

Eve, near Buffalo,NY

As long as there's truck parking or 15 car parking spots all in one row then count me in.

Rafed

Rafed,  if someone doesn't sign up first, I think you can park and 18-wheeler at exit 18 on the NYS Thruway...or somewhere in between.  We could pick you up and drop you off.

Bill's isn't particularly truck-friendly.  Don't know about Bass's place.

C.J.

Hi guys,
Sorry for not following up with you on this. It has been crazy around here.
I just spoke with Bill, April 25th sounds like a good day for me and for Bill. I'm wondering who will be interested in coming. We can either meet at my place I can have up to 20 people, Bill can have more people at his place and he's in NJ.
Let me know.

Bass, 25th sounds good to me.  I will be there.

Pete

So we have 1 person so far,
Who else?

25th works for me count me in either place is good what time and how long of a presentation are you considering????

The 25th will work for me.
Al

Bill will be going over how the self watering container works. It's a short presentation, but we will probably be there for at least a couple hours. We will get to meet other fig growers.

For Martin's benefit,  Out west we call our container "earth". It has been self watering this winter, but will need some assistance for the rest of the year.

Bass, Probably won't make this meeting. ;-((((

I believe Sunday April 25th will work for many people. As far as time I'm guessing around noon should be a good time for us to meet.

Would do you guys think?

noon is good for me but anytime that day works

Noon works

Has a meeting place been decided upon. Trees of Joy,,or Bill's Figs?

Hi Bass, Just now seeing this thread. I would love to come to either your place or Bill's, count me in and let me know the details.

Thanks,

Hello,
Thanks for your interest in the meeting. I will be talking with Bill today to finalize the details and I will be posting them here.
I would love to have it at my place, but I'm affraid of rain, and the number of attendees. Bill has a barn where he does a presentation and has a larger place than mine. I believe NJ is more centrally located.
