What a beautiful mess!
Frank,
Will you wrap your tree? or is it unprotected?

Art

It works?

Forget and neglect- lol

Jennifer

What variety Frank, if you don't mind me asking?

Art,

It's a cutting my Dad planted when we lived in that house years ago.  Luckily, we're good friends with the current homeowner and they allow us to visit the tree any time.  It's about an hour away from where I live, so I don't see it too often.  It's NEVER been protected or pruned.

Jennifer,

Much better choice of words.

Steve,

Not sure on the variety.  Resembles Bella Brunetta Rossa,  Bayernfeige Violetta, & English BT.  Came from Carini, Sicily back in the early 70s from my relatives.

this is how most of the unprotected trees in NYC look, except the trunks are 4-8" in diameter. seems to work (if growing sticks is your goal) but to have more fruit that is easier to pick, manage and allows the plant a better chance at health there are better ways.

The next time you visit you should get yourself a nice walking stick Frank ;)

With that tree he could get all of us walking sticks !!
That is just like the connies dark and light I have nearby but mine are taller like 15 ft
Dont know what they are but there great figs and completely unprotected.

should do an airlayer at the bottom, just putting the pot cut in half, to rescue a large tree for your own.  Nice pictures. I wonder why so many suckers.
