Plant Velcro

So, was at Home Depot last week and needed to get the green ribbon stuff to tie some of the trees. Well, they were out of every size of course so I saw this plant velcro. I thought to myself, what a great idea! So, I buy 2 big rolls come home and spend 2 days restaking and velcroing all the unruly figs. I come in sit down and think, OMG is this stuff going to girdle the trees as they grow? Am I going to have to adjust this every week?

Does anybody have any experience with this? It would be nice if I could sleep tonight instead of worrying that I have just choked all my trees!

Tami, I started using it last year but have not had to remove any so far. I don't know if it will be an issue or not.

Eventually you'll have to loosen it, but that's the great part about velcro.  It's made to adjust.  You'll loosen it in weeks to months, not days.  But it shouldn't be super tight, either.

I made it pretty tight so I should probably keep an eye on it then. Some of the trees were going in a direction contrary to where I thought they should so are tied for retraining.

So you're into bondage.  Does it make the figs taste different?

LMAO, only kids and figs!

I don't know anything about plant velcro, but loosely tied burlap is a great way to attach trees to stakes. It has a lot of give to it before it would girdle a tree. Velcro sounds sort of unyielding,  I don't think I would tie my trees with it unless I was planing to watch them very closely all season.

Of course I DO watch my figs very closely. I look at them every morning and evening, as well as during the day if I am working from home. Looking at my figs and berry plants is my primary excuse to get up from the computer desk and walk around!

Tami I've been using the velcro also with no issues . I do though examine my trees daily.

Yes, like both of you and probably everyone on the forum, I am out there several times a day. Now I just have to train my eye to see the ties as well.

I'm really glad to hear there are no issues as of yet!
