Please help, IDK what I'm doing about winter.

5-6 days ago I put my 3 gal figlings into the garage because we had 2 nights freezing. Then  the weather warmed up to high 70's by day and and warm nights, Tonight's low will be 67!  They arent dormant yet so should I move them back outside?

Thanks, Soni

I would. In-Out-In-Out-In. It's called the shuffle.

OK  thanks,   I guess that's how you do it in GA.

We had the same type of weather here in pittsburgh. Couple nights around freezing and now its almost 70.

Soni, check your PM

I leave mine out for quite a while until all the leaves are off. It's not frost that I worry about it's the deep winter freeze. Frost is no problem. If you have figs that you are trying to still get to ripen, then do the shuffle.

I also let the frost knock the leaves off then I put them in my hoophouse or in a cool unheated room for the winter. They seem to do fine as long as the pots don't freeze. I can't use my garage because it gets to cold and they would freeze.

Your not quite asking this, but it will also be a concern eventually. Once they are dormant and warm spells come around before it is time to start putting them out, water them with ice cubes to help keep the roots cool and hold dormancy.

Thank you Calvin,   Will they try to leaf out even in the dark?

Soni: If the weather is warm  60 °F + degrees for a week or more, all the fig leaves will come out but the leaves are larger, thinner and weaker.  Just remove all these leaves in the spring when they stay outdoor. The healthy leaves will grow back which make the tree stronger. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam
