Dear friend.

It is hard to tell fig ID by leaves, also, Brown turkey fig tree are quite inexpensive in store at Vancouver, It is cheaper than to buy it from Craigslist and wrong ID, Costco sell it for $24 / 6FT tall and Canadian tire sell them $13 / 4FT, Yes, Those Brown turkey bear slightly bigger fig than "Desert king".

I bought it off craigslist, becouse it is already mature tree, its 4 years old.

thanks for your reply

As long as your fig tree bear sweet fig, It should be fine, I think that your fig tree probably "Brown Turkey".

I do not have good results with Craigslist or I do not have fig luck, if you do not mind long story.

My brother bought a $C10 fig tree from Craigslist 19 years ago, it has had few thousands of figs but not sweet as all.
My Other brother bought a $C25 "Brown Turkey alike" fig tree from local nursery 10 years ago, It bears many sweet figs for 9 years.
I bought a fig tree from Craigslist 6 years ago, I get about 10 sweet figs total, Although it has had few hundreds+ of figs but all dropped.
My co-worker bought a "Desert king" from local nursery 5 years ago, he brought back many sweet figs at work, it was very tasty and everyone love it.
So I bought a "Desert king" from Craigslist @ NorthVan, it bears grey mission fig with amber flesh, so it is not green "Desert king" with pink flesh.
Then, I bought few fig trees from Craigslist @ fig collector, Although He sold me real " Desert king" plus basic fig trees, 30% of them have some kind of sickness, not worthy for all hassle.

Anyway, I do not think that anyone will be as bad luck as me.

Hi,
Without a ripe fig it is impossible to tell. Only thing: it is not a BT . Might be a celeste or something else or a "whatever BT" but not the simple BT.
Wait for the figs to ripen. As long as it is productive there is no reason to complain ... I guess ...

@ricky: Ask your colleague for a cutting or two. Usually with figtrees, people tend to have to trim and shape them a bit. So you should easily get a copy DK from
your colleague - if the colleague wants to cooperate ... of course.
Whatever the tree you hunt, it is a hit and miss game. My harder miss was on a nectarine tree from the nursery (nectarine fantasia)... Still sick of it ... It'll get the saw this year - period - Nectarine file closed ... They are cherry sized and I can't understand that . 25 bucks and 8 years lost for that ... and from a professional nursery... GO fig trees GO !

Thanks Jdsfrance reply, yes, it is better to post fig picture with both whole fig as well as half cut, it will help, Anyway, There are few kind of Brown Turkey, I have 2 of them.

My colleague gave me cuttings from his "Desert king", It rooted but dead at windows sill due to lack of sun at winter.
I got "Desert king" cuttings from this Forum, and one member shipped me 4" small bady plant, now they are 2 Ft plants now.

However, My wage is $C20+ per hour and "Desert king" is quite easy to get from nursery for less than $C30 / 5Ft tall,  big and healthy, If I start again, I would rather buy them from nursery.

Yes, Nursery do make wrong labelled tree, I received an on-line order "White Marseilles", it has long finger leaves, It might be wrong labelled fig tree.

Typically with the Brown Turkey types (both CBT and EBT), the eye will be bright red  or pink even while the fruit is still green. If no red/pink eye, you probably have something else.

Desert King will stay green when ripe.

Either way, as long as your fig trees are making figs, you're good to go :)
