plz help id this unknown fig

  • jjs

Hi,
was at a Raleigh farmers market, saw a cute fig tree. The owner said he forgot the name, was from a Florida nursery, dwarf and well adapted to the south. I was hoping it's something exotic, but apparently might just be a vanilla brown turkey or celeste. The leaf is 5 lobed, the eye is closed it seems, and the taste is kind of watery. Keeping the tree regardless, but need an answer so I can stop researching and googling around. Much appreciated.

Leaves are not Celeste looking...

I would guess Chicago Hardy.

Chicago hardy

Thanks Gloria, Armando, and Brian. I am glad if it's Hardy Chicago. The taste should improve with time. Many thanks, js.

Whatever it is, one thing for sure, it looks like a keeper, especially when it looks like this as a young plant. Sometimes it's tough to tell the variety, I remember when a member put a photo of well known variety on and it took maybe 20 different guesses before a member got the correct variety. Congrats on your purchase.

Looks a little too small for Hardy Chicago.  But then again it is a young tree.
