I was walking through my local Mclendon HW store and saw these pond pots. They actually work great as air pruning pots. I stuck my kadota and a negronne in that i had extra of. So starts the experiment on how well it will do here in the Seattle area.

Interesting idea. 

I will be fun to watch for sure.

om a side note, I gave some peppers and tomatoes the same treatment. They are already showing signs of perking up faster than the in ground plants..  

Huge fan of air pruning pots.  Since our move, everything goes in ground, but we used similar pots at our other house, and it was amazing the amount of roots in the containers with NO rootbound circling.

IMO, your pot is too shallow. You should use some higher ones - the results would be even better .

I think they are working great for 1st year cuttings but what would be the ideal height?

Hi Ben, congrats on your pots working for you.
Just to be fair, your not really comparing apples to apples here. The pot volume of your "air" pot is much larger, so the growth should be greater on that ascpect alone.

Almost 2 months later check out the difference in plant growth.
 

Is the smaller 1 gallon pot also growing in a saucer of water?
