It is planted by a house that is below the sidewalk . The tree is tall now and picking up the ripe figs is very convenient since you are collecting them from the top of the tree.

Anyone game for talking to them to find out the story of this tree?  They'd probably let you take some cuttings.  Just don't tell them how much they've sold for!!!

Frank has had ripe fruit and he doesn't have the wasp so we know it doesn't need the wasp.  Frank said his last few were very good and similar to what he tasted in Switzerland.  The first ones were eaten by the birds.

The owners seem not to care much about the PT figs, they never pick them up. You can see them falling to the ground and drying on the tree. I do not think it is precious to the owners, it protects from the people walking along the sidewalk mostly and gives some shade.

I am working to find out its true ID with someone who is owning a huge fig plantation in Switzerland . They already replied to me but still in discussion with some others who are also in fig business

The only sane person here is John Parav. People are paying hundreds of dollars for cuttings of an unknown fig that has produced one (as in 1) piece of fruit in the continental US. The hype is like a wave building. And at the end no one knows why. Many people discover unknown figs. Why this one? Yes, I get that Frank is apopleptic about the taste, and I get that people have lots of $$ to spend on their hobby in this country. BUT WHY THIS FIG and not any other? its just irrational. I'll let y'all know in September what I think of the taste.

I think that exists two types of figs:
figs for people that love eating figs, and figs for people that like to have a collection of figs.
Sometimes i think if it's worth to have so many fig varieties, like some people.
Why these people accumulate hundreds fig varieties? These are figs, not figurines!
I bet that these people eat only the fruit of 4-5 favorite varieties and discard the others.

I dont't envy the owners of Ponte Tresa or other rare varieties. I too have rare varieties, that i'm sure are unknown elsewhere (except those wich i've given), no one can say that mine are worst than Ponte Tresa.
I admire the sellers for their marketing ability, high prices are made by buyers.
There was a lot of promotion for this variety, the work has paid off, it's a "business variety".

Mai Mai is it? With all respect, I think it is you that have misunderstood me. As I said, It is a free country, so if you want to spend your money on any fig you want, that's great, whether it is justified or not is another story. If your point is you have every right to do what you want and like whatever fig you want, I cannot disagree. But I am not going to sell my tree and cash out because I am not a fig collector for the money. I am a collector because I enjoy the fruit and I enjoy the process. I have my own career, and that is how I earn my money, so no thank you for your suggestion to sell.

So as long as you're not caught and you are not abusing like in taking the whole tree ... there is probably a tolerance ...
Of course you'll still be unmasked . The wife and siblings at home will catch you (with cuttings in bottles with water)... and you'll have to bear their stare ...
And next time you'll pass by a fig tree, they will be yelling at you : Resist to the fig side of the force; you can do it ... but you can't ... Damn life ...

Try as I might, I just don't get it. Why the anger? And to whom is it specifically directed? Who are the bad guys in this soap opera?

This is an unknown fig,a no fancy name fig,from my collection, discovered in Petrovac(Montenegro),amazing look and taste...could be Ponte Tresa's brother/sister/cousin/uncle....??

Lolita are you grafting varies fig varieties in one huge fig tree? Theres an artist who grafted varies fruits in a tree and he made it so that that there was a flow of ripeness of fruits in each season.... that would be soo awesome
