This seems like a great idea.  A Pop up bird/insect net.  I found this on Improvements.com catalog.   I'm not buying it though because reviews say they are flimsy, but it would be great to have.  My problem is more with birds and flying insects.  I have pomegranates and had an invasion of some sort of assassin like bug.  I saw some trying to get my figs too before I put some bags around each one.   Someone should invent a sturdier model.    If you know of one, let me know where to buy it.

Was the offending "assassin like bug" a leaf footed bug by chance?   If so they are horrid creatures for fruit growers in the warmer areas.  

Yes, they are leaf footed and evil looking and the adults can fly.  They are frightening.  Ruined all my pomegranates this year.  I throw Diatomaceous Earth on them, but they fly towards you with the powder on them.   I'm going to do the DE earlier this year.   Fortunately, most were on the pomegranates.  Someone posted on this forum to put the gauzy gift bags on figs and that worked great, but I'll probably have too many figs (hopefully) to do that next year.   Plus, some other creature or insect is able to suck those figs right through those bags.

Those leaf footed bugs are the reason I got ducks:) The ducks knock them down by 90% or so.
