Portuguese Dark

It's a 5 or 6 year old potted one, very happy with its production this year, but its me vs the cat birds this year!

Very nice , I have a 2yr old (approx) and there are a few figs on it. Nothing ripe yet. Would appreciate a taste profile Jack if you get a few more than the catbird!
I've been ahead of the game using the organza bags. Birds only got one - I missed it so it didn't get a bag.

The taste is very good, small crunchy seeds, the taste is a mix of a large red grape and a hint of red rasberry, mild fig taste, but very nice.  Thick skin that peels off nicely.  I want one of mine to go into the ground and get large, because the jam that this would make would be very unique.

Thanks Jack ! I am looking forward to this one.

Some say/think that PD is similar (or same?) as Sal(C)...

George , I did read that . Since I have both , it will be interesting to see later down the road when they get older to see how close if not the same , they are.

Here is what the inside looks like, has a taste mixture of sweet watermelons, kiss of rasberry, and ripe red sweet grapes, the skin peels off easily and one can see the seam at the bottom of the fig near the stem.

Portugese Dark is a real work horse for me, always dependable, good figs, good growing tree. George, I have Sal's Corleone as you know since I got it from you lol. I don't think SC and PD are anywhere near the same. Different size and shape, different taste, ripen at different times. Are you thinking of another Sal's?

Jack it sounds amazing !!
Barry , I'm glad to hear that. I'm hoping they are different!

Barry,

You are [1/4?] right; it is the 'Brooklyn Dark' (and not the PD) that may be the same as Sal(C).
[PD may actually be similar to HC and/or Sal(EL).]

Btw, there is yet another fig called 'Black Portuguese' which is very different from Portuguese Dark.

Dark Portuguese cultivar as it came to me not sure if same as PD but its taste profile was of a mild Hardy Chicago.
Gave to neighbor who left it out in yard over winter and it went kaput.
Productive plant when in my yard.
