Technically one could put a heating cable around the in ground tree and help it wake up faster no?

You'll be compensated by a larger crop from the in ground as it matures

now that danger of frost is past, I  guess I could just put some clear plastic on the ground around the tree to heat up the soil. It has had minimal protection since I uncovered it in March. I maybe only recovered it 3 or 4 times when we had substantial drop below freezing. I plan on making an insulated box, with hinged lid, around it for next winter. That way it can be opened on warm days and closed on the cold days, and have warmer temps in the spring.  an experiment in progress.
