Prayers for those in the path of Isaac!

Hurricanes devastate and I'm not happy when they affect my buddies!  I'm watching from So California, and praying that the rains don't hurt your figs or winds, rains and floods don't take everything from you!

Tough call.  If they are in pots, you can bring them into the garage or your home, but in ground, how do you protect?

I'm sure I'm not alone in my concerns for you guys along the gulf and inwards.  I got your back!  I'll send you free cuttings to help cover your losses, as I'm sure many will do.

Suzi,
Thx for your consideration.  Not expecting much here but at least we can run from a hurricane, how do you run from an earthquake?  I would really be anxious anywhere near a seismic event.

Thinking about all my figfriends in LA/AL/MS/TX in the next couple of days.  Be safe, and may this one be light and fast to pass through.

Looks like Gene and Vivian are right in the path of this. Hope they have seeked refuge.
Figs can be replaced,,, easily

Thanks all for your concern. I think all will be alright but it would be better if it went up the east side of the Mississippi River. That would keep the tides down. Look like it will be a rain maker and moving oh so slow. I saw a prediction of upwards of 17 inches easy if you're in the wrong spot. Linda and I are at home tonight as early tomorrow I have to do something to protect my young yearling trees. I have them under a lean-to that allows me to board up the from very easy but just slipping boards into slots. My concern is if the winds get strong enough to lift the roof off of them. I'll have to see if I can make it a little stronger.

Everyone take care and Blessing to all,

I still remember the feeling I had while prepping and evacuating for Ike.  The anticipation left one of the most uneasy feelings in my gut.  I cannot recall that feeling at any other time.

Good luck to all those in it's path.

James I can relate to that feeling. I spent hurricane Hilda (1964)  in Thibodeaux, La. in an up stairs apartment. We could see all the transformers blowing out across the town. That was eerie. We also spotted a few fires.

The follow year (1965) we were still in Thibodeaux but because Hilda had cracked the apartment we stayed in a ground level brick house.  All was well with me, the eye passed right over us and we went outside and saw the stars. Then the wind shift and torrential rains hit. What unnerved me was when the wind drove the water through the walls and into the house. I thought we were gonna's for sure. We survived it with out further incidence but I swore I would never stay around for another storm.

My wife went through Hilda with a 2 month baby in a little shotgun shack, because her husband at the time was too worried about his work place. By the time he got home the winds were too strong to travel safely. She also vowed never to spend another hurricane at home. This time will be a first for us in 47 years. I am confident that this will be a minimal hurricane and my daughters house should handle it with out a problem. She also has a whole house generator, ice maker, and plenty of beer and JD if I get a little too nervous.

Everyone stay safe,

Hope everyone stays safe and no serious damage is done. It was a year ago, I think today exactly that Irene came through Philly and we had a flood in the basement and back yard. Considering what others went through I suppose we were pretty lucky.

I am watching it's path, and I am still praying for all of you anywhere near that path.  I just hope none of you are in it!  We don't want any direct hits!!

Stay safe!

I agree with Noss, thanks for the prayers. If the storm had move another few miles to the west we would have gotten the tidal surge here and also the torrential rains. Even though we sat in the eye of the storm for most of the day yesterday, which was quiet, we only suffered minor damages and a few trees down in Houma. The power went out in a lot of areas but that's to be expected, most of that is because of blow fuses. We should have power up fairly quickly.

My trees survived very well. All of my potted trees are fine except one that got it's trunk broke and it had a weakened trunk. My in ground tree look beat up from the wind but I don't think any suffered damage. They will be heavily pruned this winter anyway.

This was the strangest storm ever and thankfully for us it is over. I hope it bring needed rain to areas that need it as it moves north.

Glad to hear both you and Vivian are fine.

Glad to hear you all survived.

It still looks pretty organized. Last night over NO, it was even more compact.

Thanks for the map Gina...

Last night I was out watering my in ground cuttings and some of my (ahem) non-fig trees and noticed the winds coming out of the north.  I thought it seemed to be a bit early for northern winds.  I didn't think about the storm.
