Preto

Another outstanding fig,

This summer was one of the worst summers in terms of weather yet It was the season I ate the most figs the last two weeks have been eating dozens of figs daily.

Nelson

Very nice fig ! and a delicacy to the palate.
Congrats

Francisco

good looking figs. had 3 o 4 on the tree, but birds got to them before i did. last month or so has been very nice here. didn't taste any of my older trees much, but the new trees are putting on nice figs.

Looks perfect!  Glad you're enjoying lots of figs.

Cool. I'm seriously jealous:)

This year I've only had enough figs to be tantalized more than satisfied.

Nice looking fig too. I have a young Preto with a few figs just 'sitting there'. Hopefully soon I'll get to taste the first one ever.

Wait until next year!

Glad to hear it is a good fig.  I ended up with two of them......first one broke off in shipping and then looked sickly so arranged a second trade with another person knowing full well if I did so the first one would perk up....  It did:)  but a person could have worse problems.

I love preto-it is my favorite fig right now, 2nd year tree, very complex, sweet-smoky flavor. Nice pics! Thank you for sharing.

Wills, glad to hear the Preto I sent you made it.  I had a few figs like that one this spring that did not like the cool, rainy weather.  Later, these figs all came out of ther funk and put on a lot of growth.  I probably shouldn't have sent that one when I did but I'm glad it is doing well for you now.

Nice pics! I could go for a Preto right now!! It is an excellent fig

Awesome looking fig Nelson .
How is the plant as far as FMV ?

This one was my favorite this year. In your opinion which figs are in the same league as this one?

I was fortunate enough to grow up eating these from a mature tree when I lived in Madeira. To be able to have my own now is a blessing thanks to Sue for discovering the tree in point Loma and sharing it with us.

What other figs are in the same league well so far the only one that comes close out of my own plants is bourjassote noire although I enjoyed the preto more but both are worth having and excellent tasting IMO.

Thank you Nelson. Appreciate the feedback.

Nelson: How are the tastes between Preto and Black Madeira? Thanks for sharing.

Best,

Nelson:
Nice photo and fig. Thanks for sharing! Do you think Preto and Black Madeira are the same fig?

Leon, I think they are closely related. The diff seems to be that the Preto ripens with less heat. It rip0ens near the beach where my BM would never ripen. Flavor seems indistinguishable.

Wow!  That looks full of tasty flavor!  I'm def wanting to try a Preto fig here in our cooler weather of the pacific northwest.  Thank you for sharing.

I also had a couple of ripe Preto, and agree with Nelson!
Here the year was totally unsuitable for ripening fig trees, yet it was quite good, but of course it can be way much better in a normal long hot dry Summer ,like we use to have before 2010.
Edit note:By the way,my tree is in ground from the beginning.

I heard about the Figo Preto, and how good it is, after the picture and the rave reviews,  I have to find one for next spring...if somebody want to sell a Preto Plant please PM.

Herman2: Nice figs, thanks for your sharing.

Thank you Jon.

That does look good.

Alan, I'm interested in this question too and am growing both to compare (as are others on the forum).  It would be great if what you suggest turns out to be true. So far my two plants look and grow identically but maybe they will distinguish themselves this year.
