Every day I go outside to check my figs, paying special attention to Black Madeira and Black Ischia, very anxious about those 2 above all others. Darn near forget about Preto but lo and behold it's making it's move! It's supposed to be pretty close to Black Madeira and hey, I'm find out if it is.

I had one of these that swelled up, the bottom turned purple and the eye split.  Have other people seen problems with this splitting?  An organza bag should keep out insects but it may still rot.  It's as hard as a rock.  Fortunately there are 2 others.

I've been putting organza bags on many of my ripening figs and this one definitely is bagged. I haven't hear of any ripening problems, kinda surprised to hear of yours. I'll post pics when this ripens. I've got other figs on the tree too, so I'm hoping no problems arise.

I have two Prato each very heavy with unripe figs. I too check them daily. Waiting for the swell.

Must go find my organza bags - I forgot about using them.

I think figs grown in pots that are often watered tend to split more often. In part that's why eventually I'm going to plant them in the ground and water them less.
