From my unkown NJ Red

The eye never opens, even after a deluge.

It is a medium sized reddish-brown fig with extraordinary complex flavors... not for children or the casual figger.

Frank

Frank, you tease! Have we seen the ripe fruit?

Was it hardy in Joisey?

Hey Ruben, pictures 4-7 in post below ...

It was indeed hardy from the land from whence it came, Brent.

It reminds me of this tree in Wilmington, DE. http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/show_single_post?pid=1269943286&postcount=2

I thought those figs had a cranberry sort of flavor, hard to describe though, also it did not split or spoil at all last season while ripening fruit through a hurricane and sustained heavy rains.

Pretty close, Brent.

The NJ Reds appear to have a thinner skin and  not as round. They could be cousins.

Thanks for the link/reminder, Frank. My post at that time still stands!

not exactly pink in picture, but it's pink under certain light condition.
