Private messages - any way to download them all?

I'd hate to lose them all but my box is full.

Bob,

Just a wild guess but maybe you can copy and paste them to your Microsoft Word?
Or anything of that nature?

A lot of forums have an export feature where you can download them as an XML file or similar.  I found at least one place that indicates it is possible, but I can't find the feature for the life of me.  Unless it's hidden in a submenu somewhere, I can't find it.

Websitetoolbox [unfortunately] isn't exactly a vBulletin or anything.

There are waaay too many to cut & paste.  It would take forever  :)

Empty the sent items to reduce box size?

If you have 3 or more emails from the same person, delete all except the  last email from them.  Because their last email has all replies.  Hope this helps.

You can also "save page" or "save page as..." in most browsers.  Usually it's under the file menu (up on the menu bar).  Or if you're using Google Chrome, it's one of the options when you click on that little wrench up near the upper right corner of the window.  If you use "save page as" then it will offer you the chance to name the file that you are saving to.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for... it'll only save one message at a time, rather than save them all in one shot.  But it's better than cut and paste anyway (it's way fewer clicks), and it gives you a chance to organize the saved messages according to whatever file names you choose.  Probably not as good as an "export private messages" function would be, but at least it's a way to do it.  After you save a particular message as an HTML file on your hard drive, then you could delete that same message from the inbox.  You could do the same thing with the sent messages as well.

Good luck.

"Save Page as" doesn't work adequately on dynamically scripted pages.  Saving each individual message and marking up the subsequent files to make it cohesive would be a bear!

Jason... yep, you're right, depending on what Bob wants to do with the saved messages.  Guess I spoke too soon.  Sorry Bob... my suggestion won't really work all that much better than cut/paste, if you ever wanted to do anything with the private messages you save.  If you just want to keep them around for reference (i.e. to read them in future, but never reply to them), then it works adequately well for that purpose.  (I'd recommend using the "web page complete" option upon saving, rather than the "HTML only" option).  It's still not great, but it is a bit less cumbersome than cut/paste to save (fewer clicks, and if you save them all in a single folder with some kind of filename convention for who they're from, it would be easier than cut/paste).  You could never reply to those messages though... the buttons on the page wouldn't work.

"Export private messages" would be much better, if websitetoolbox were to offer such a function.

Not sure is this will help, but see http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ for Web Boomerang. It will save a whole website, so if your messages are on a server, it might do that as well. Only good till midnight tonight.
