progress on rooting this winter

Below are pictures of cuttings I'm rooting right now. I've basically used Dan's methods of cleaning, paper towel and baggies. I couldn't find the UPM quickly, so I use Miricle Gro, potting mix without fertilizer or moisture retention additives. I rooted in paper towels and move to cups when initials were at least 1/4" long. Some I put in cups because the buds had sprouted without roots. It's very important to do that because the moisture from the paper towel will cause the buds to mold or rot. I had a few of those. The initials will break out sooner or later. It's nice to see roots before cupping but it's not necessary.
The pictures are of Martin's Uknown, Ventura, Paridiso and Strawberry. The plant I'm showing is a Martin's Uknown.

The most handy watering tool. It let you measure the amount and let you put it right where you want it. Since I have holes up and down the sides of my cups, I can shoot a little water where it needed without soaking the whole cup. Works great.

Gene thanks for sharing your pictures.
Gee i feel somewhat embarassed as of late seeing folks pictures of Martins Unknown, i passed it out as i did get a lot of requests when i used to post pictures of the figs and now i dont even have a Martins Unknown !
Anyhoot always nice to see fig pictures period so thanks it takes my mind of the snow we are suppose to get tonight thru friday morning of only for a few moments.
In future i hope to pass out more types of plants as i learn a little bit about there habits first and get a little something back for this hobby when i decide to put some scion on ebay like some other folks are doing.

Gene those look better than great. Roots on roids I guess you will be potting up soon. Stay warm

Sal

They should be good in the cups until the weather warms a bit Sal. Then I'll pot them and put them outside in the nursery. I couldn't have done it without the help I gathered here on the forum. Thanks to all who added even the littlest amount of info that increased my knowledge to make it possible.

Gene I guess I still have brain farts when having to consider different climates, but they must like that potting mix the leaves look real healthy and green. I think we got a record low in my area last night I don't believe I'm wishing for warmer weather already.

Sal

Sal, sometime I to have trouble trying to visualize the weather they have in the north part of the country. Below O degrees temp, and snow 3 and 4 feet thick, is something my mind can't fathom. We might hit 22 degrees on Sat. morning which is about a cold as it get around here and only every 10 to 15 years or so.  I remember 12 degrees in 1962 the year I graduated. I think that is the all time record. Normally we have one or two very light freezes a year and some years the tomatoes just keep on growing. I'm heading to bed so good night and keep warm.

Hi Gene i was reading your last post.
I promise to help you visualize tomorrow morning as we had a few inches of snow right now its 15 out not to be unless the wind picks up.
My figs are in a nice deep sleep its winter and January ahh the memories 1967 ole fashion snowstorm on my birthday they actually called it a blizzard. Seems nowadays they call a mere 5 inches a snowstorm for some reason or another.

Martin, the only way I can imaging what happens up north is what I see in pictures as I have no experiences I can relate too.
Here are the type of pictures that come to mind.

Of course there are always fun loving people no matter where you go.

I know why people get cabin fever, they can't get out.

Gene those are some neat pictures !
Thanks for sharing those.  ; )
I posted some of ours as of late under thread Area Minus Fig PLants but no snow like that!
